Trouble enabling full DIC on 2008 Silverado

GM sells the panel for $100 with the DIC buttons. My model has the trip meter button to enable the limited DIC functions. I removed the left trim panel, and it had a harness for the DIC buttons. I tried connecting every set with a piece of safety wire to see if I could get anything, but they do nothing at all in any configuration. Do I have to do something to disable the trip button changing it? I'm confused.

you might have to have it flashed by the dealer to accept the DIC controls

Hm. I'll call them up and ask.

Well, they weren't sure, but it costs $120-$250 to do any kind of flashing. That is super ghey. Can't get anything for free these days.
