Hey so a buddy of mine who is opening a hot rod shop is going to do some work on my truck. We are doing a body drop and full shave. I am confident of his fabrication/welding skills, but he is really into this whole "lead only" thing. When we shave the different parts he wants to use lead filler. My question is, is this good? can it be really smooth? He has already shaved a bunch of stuff on his 49 fleetline and it looks ok, but Im just a little nervous about not using any bondo or body filler.

its been used for about a hundred years, the seams on older cars are all done with lead. if you strip them down you can see the difference in the metal. my 73 olds omega was like this. it should be fine. the only drawback, is there will be a learning curve to working with a molten metal rather than a plastic body filler. the up side is you can just keep heating it and moving it around as you need to.
