Ok I have a 05 silverado with the black plastic over the tailgate I think it looks gay anyone done anything with this any ideas

You can have it removed and have the holes filled in and repainted. Or they make a smooth cap that you can have painted to match. The smooth cap fits the contour of the top...no shelf to it.
