I have the same truck, with the 5.7, and I run dual 40 Series Flowmasters. Very nice sound, I would definetly reccomend getting them!

Me and my dad have had 40 series flowmasters on everything we have owned and love them everytime...

go with a 2 1/2 tip which somewhat changes the sound a little deeper...

in your opinion what other mufflers out there have a close sound and tone to 40 series?

i would go with the super 40's and turn em down in front of the rear axle

well i have no lift on it so in the state of va i cant dump em out underneath my truck. i would fail inspection.

if you want loud then flows sound good...i have 40 series dumped with echo tips...i see you won't be able to dump them but i got mine done when i was in highschool about 5yrs ago and now i think its to loud in the cab and plan on getting magnaflow or something that has better air flow and sounds good but not necessarily loud...

flowmaster 10 series sounds better than the 40s especially with no cats.40 series are over-rated.if it were me i'de just run no cats with an x-pipe with no mufflers can't beat that on the old 350s.

Thats my original setup 2.25" true duals with cats and no mufflers.

Then I cut the cats and added an x-pipe, still no mufflers. 10 series will give you a little deeper tone just not as loud.

so you have emissions in your state then...I was gonna say my last two trucks had no cats and a super 40. It sounds awesome!!! sucks for you cuz you need cats

honestly if you want it loud just unclamp it after the cat's and before the muffler, or just get nice exhaust.. hint hint (magnaflow)

I went from Flows to Magnaflow and I am happier in every aspect, loudness, tone, and flow.

what type of sound do you want if you want it to pop everytime at low rpm's go with straights if you want a low not to loud rumble go with a dynomax but if you want a low rumble when you start up but when you start driving you should go with a flowmaster series 40

Me I like as loud as you can get so i am going to have straight pipes and what type of emissions you got there cause here in texas some places check and some dont so down here we just take a pipe and weld it in the cat so we run true straights and it is LOUD!!

We've got emissions testing down here too. I haven't had to go through it yet (just moved from FL with no tests) but I have a buddy with a 95 1500 with gutted cats and a Flowmaster (not sure the series). He passes emissions, but I know you can't dump it under the bed.

do they look under there or do they hook something up to the pipes to read the gases cause if they just look under there then gut the cat and put a pipe in there

92gmc1500
01-15-2008, 03:36 PM
they jus look . . ive been thinking bout cutting cats. . . ive been thinking bout x pipe but u thikn H or X pipe sounds better

It depends on what type of sound you want on it each one has its own sound. if you cut your cats an easy way to get around would be to knock everything out of your cat and stick a pipe thru it and weld it shut looks just like you got a cat that is running and sounds loud as can be. Down here we are "suppose" to have working cats but as long as it looks like it then your good to go. I cant really tell about an X pipe or H pipe I havent really heard them because down here people go for as loud as they can

I like the sound of an x-pipe better than an H pipe its smoother IMO.
