Hey guys. I have 1998 z71 excb. Do any of the OBS pickups have a warning tone to alert you to turn off your headlights after the ignition is turned off. I know alot of 00'and + vehicles have one but I'm not sure about the OBS. I've left my headlights on several times and not realized it because I'm used to our 01' mustang which has an alarm tone. any thoughts?
not that this helps much but my 97 burban has an alarm tone. have you checked the little black box down by the Scan tool port thing? (sorry i dont know the correct term for it)

I know alot of guys that pulled the chime boxes out of there trucks so it may not even be there. But that will be your culprit, Either it is bad or it is gone.
yah i pulled mine out and 3 days later i left the lights on over night...when i went to start my truck it was like there was no battery. took 7564374 hours to jump

When you get old enough to be senile (like me) all that warning stuff gets to be a good idea:
"HEY DUMB ASS - THE LIGHTS ARE ON, YOU LEFT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE SEATBELT AIN'T FASTENED AND YOU LEFT YOUR WIFE AT THE GAS STATION." Ding... ding. ding.

haha, On the real tho.....I wonder If theres a way you can break some of the prongs off on that black box so it wont buzz when you open the doors, but it will still tell you that your headlights are on.
DUDE rod i love you. i've sawing off some off them tomorrow... hopefully it doesnt blow

try putting electrical tape over one and gently pushing it into the slot until it makes contact. trial and error till you find the right one/ones
good idea. i'll work on that tomorrow. thanks!

I would just hit up your local junkyard, or tell the dealer you want a door chime for your truck.

or just don't... its annoying.

Id rather be annoyed a lil bit, than having clicks when you go to turn the key...hah Especially Having HID's Its hellla hard on them when you turn them on without the truck running

you can also add an after market one that has little alligator clamps that you can run in line. not sure how they wire up but i have seen them at the parts store. the have them for the healights and door chimes. that could be an easy option for ya.

yeah i will find something. i know it may be annoying at times but it sucks when you leave the lights on all day at work then, (being the last one to leave) go to head home and the truck doesn't even acknowledge you turned the key. it'll be worth it to put one back in. thanks for all the info and pics guys/girls. i appreciate it.

Part number is 15042437 and it's called ALARM ASM module or something like that. I paid about $30 at the dealer for mine a few months ago.

im pretty sure hid's draw less current than standard halogens:think:
Rod726

Yeah but the HID's need alot of power to for the ballasts to Ignite the capsules and then they dont draw as much, but., When I turn the lights on when the truck isnt running If they havent Fired while running they flicker and dont come on all the way.

I took mine apart and the progs are labled, so I snipped off a couple and now the buzzer only goes off when I leave my headlights on. :)

Oooooo... I'll have to replace mine and snip off the two for the doors... Mine 88 only buzzes when I have the key in and the doors open, but I've left the lights on for hours without noticing thanks to this thing...
And also, I could live with the soft chime that comes in 95s and up, but mine has the ultra obnoxious buzzer that sounds like something from a nightmare...
tricksick, you are amazing. [EDIT] hey hey, another east TN guy!

Maybe just get rid of the "Key" pin instead of the ignition?

Of course, us older guys hear the buzzer, think- WTH's that?, slam the door, then notice that our keys are not in our pockets!

I was going to private message everyone that had done what I posted, but I don't know who has or hasn't. I apologize to everyone who broke their parts because of my (bad) advice. I get paid tomorrow, so I reckon I will be going to find a new buzz box this weekend. And I'll get a few extra. If you want me to fix my mistake, you can shoot me a pm with your addy and I will ship them out. I don't know how much these things costs, and I only make modest wages, but I am ahead on my bills so I can afford to buy a few extra (I hope).
Sorry.
P.S. Whomever quoted my thread on the previous page, could you please edit your post and erase the information so other people don't try to do this also?

My '90 Silverado has a tone which goes off if I turn off my ignition while the parking and/or headlights are still on.
My last car had automatic headlights and I don't think I touched the headlight switch once in the years I owned it. Evidently it really left an effect on me, judging by how much I hear that "lights on" tone in my truck to this day.
I see a lot of threads where people are disabling their auto-on headlights. Anyone have any luck converting an older truck to HAVING auto-on and off headlights? :)

Yeah, I am having the same prob with the lights. Leaving them on. I looked didn't see the black box people are talking aobut. One trick that I have used is to only put the parking lights on since the Daytime running lights come on automatically. That way if you forget to turn them off, it is only the parking instead of the whole works burning down your battery. Might give you a chance to start it after you come out hours later... :FSCrules:
