Just wanted to know if anyone is running the dynomax ultra flow welded mufflers on a '96-'98 truck with the 5.7 vortec motor? I'm thinkin about getting them but, I want to hear how they sound on a similar truck first. I'm thinking of either the ultra flow welded, ultra flow bullets, or flowmaster super 44s on my truck. I'm also doing full 2.5" piping with stock cats and an x-pipe. I'm just having trouble picking a muffler. I'm also open to any suggestions as well. Post up your sound clips if you have them.

ive got one on my 2000. i love it. if you want something loud, get something else though. it's pretty mellow, but sounds good when you stand on it. sure, its not a 5.7, but you get the point..

sounds really good, but you're right about it being pretty mellow. I think I want to go with something more aggressive than that. I just don't know if I want to go with flowmaster. It just seems like everyone and their cousin runs a flowmaster and I wanted to do something a little different. I just can't find a good mix of tone and sound level that I really like.

magnaflow seems to be a little louder than the UF. borlas are a hint louder too.

i like borla but they're just so expensive. i guess ultra flows are pretty pricey too though unless you get the bullets. im not a big magnaflow fan usually. i havn't really found and good clips of magnaflow though. i usually look on youtube for sound clips but it's getting hard to find stuff like that for the OBS trucks. everything i usually find is on a '03+ truck. i'm sort of starting to lean toward the flowmaster super 40s. i always liked the sound of flowmasters. like i said, i was just trying to keep my truck from being your everyday "cookie cutter" OBS by running something other than flowmaster. But so far, i just cant find a sound that i like more. :dunno: i'll just have to see what's floating my boat when it comes time to get it done i guess. in the meantime i'm going to keep looking on youtube for clips. also if anyone has some on here, post them up! thanks fellas

borlas arent all that expensive.. 120 bucks for a stainless muffler isnt too bad. the UF cheaper than the flowmasters, i paid about 70 bucks for mine. cheapest flowbastard is 80. im not really a fan of magnaflow either. they tend to be a little too raspy for me. heres another clip of the UF if you are wondering..

i found one of the dynomax super turbo on youtube that i like. i dunno, the ultra flows aren't really doin it for me. maybe i'll see if i can get borlas through work cheaper. i know for sure i can get flowmasters and dynomax really cheap. I'm not sure what other brands the company we deal with carries. but if they've got borlas, i'll probably go with one of their mufflers.

Mom's truck has a dynomax ultra flow 3"x-pipe muffler behind a 6.0 It is VERY loud, interior resonance is moderate, but it sounds like a truck at idle and at wot its mean, meaner than any other truck muffler I've heard. My truck has 3" straight pipe but her truck still gives chills when you step on it. Good luck.

i like the sound of the ultra flow "x" style muffler a lot. actually the 6.0 is what i heard the regular ultra flow on. My girlfriend's brother has a '03 Sierra 1500 HD with a 6.0 and stock exhaust from the muffler forward. He has an ultra flow welded muffler backed by a custom bent 3" tailpipe and a 4" tip that exits in the stock location. That truck sounds MEAN. that's why i was looking for sound clips on a 5.7 liter engine. they sound good, but they just aren't the same as the 6.0s.

i got sick of having a quiet truck today. so i went down to the shop and cut off my stock muffler and i put a 2.25" x-pipe that i had laying around from a different project in it's place followed by 2.25" pipes about 1.5' back and dumped the pipes before the axle. the truck sounds decent for now. i just have to go back and weld up a leak on a spot i missed. but i think i'm going to leave it with the straight pipes until i get my tax return. first thing on the agenda right now is to get some big tires ordered up and my lift kit on the truck.

had to dig this one up again. i was just wondering if your UF was the oval case or the round "bullet" case?

What size dynomax are you guys running? The 14 inch body or the 20 inch body?

you'd probably want to run a 14" body...the 20" would be really quiet. The ultra flows are a little on the quiet side to begin with but, they have awesome tone. That's why i'm thinking twice about going with flowmasters and going with a dynomax muffler instead.

14" oval. stock manifolds and cats, it's quiet as hell.
