im starting a project i want it to be a throw back to an old hot rod so i am planing on doing a pretty good size 350 or 383 and a 4spd but i dont want to blow my trans because i tend to shift pretty hard...which of the two is the strongest

a "rockcrusher" muncie(M22) is the strongest, but they are hard to find, and usually big $$$

a "good size 350 or 383" i was always under the impression that they were the same size if the displacement was the same.

If your building a new tranny then go to gearzone.net and build up a muncie style to handle huge hp. But stock the muncie M22 is strongest, with the super T10 second and the 1" shaft M21 and M20 the same strength at third. I have a 7/8" shaft M20 in my 78 behind a 388 and I've blown it up twice because of the case so watch out for that if you go the muncie route. Im rebuilding it now with a supercase and iron midplate from gearzone and it should hold up just fine after that.

my dad has a rockcrusher 4speed in his 78 vette, looking to get rid of it for a 5speed though, not much power going through it(L82) but man it shifts great
