Hey guys I am looking at getting a supercharger pretty quick. I have my eye on a procharger b/c i cant find a whipple. But anyway are prochargers as hard to get set up as a wynjammer? As in changing the whole fuel system and are they as hard to tune as the wynjammer b/c i've heard horror stories about the wynjammer. No offense to anyone! This is my dd tho so it needs to be reliable and opinions, suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

The difficulty of the installation and tuning would depend on how complete the kit is that you buy. I have installed Vortech, Procharger, Whipple and Powerdyne superchargers on Vortec and pre-Vortec 5.7s as well as LT1s. All of them make a good bolt-on kit which should take about 3 to 5 hours to install. They all do the same thing, make boost, so they all require the same thing. Which would be more fuel under boost conditions. This is done in several different ways such as raising the fuel pressure with a boost referenced regulator, widening the injector pulse width, installing larger rated injectors and or adding a supplemental fuel system. Bottom line is make sure the kit you buy has something to provide for the additional fuel need created by the supercharger.

7 lbs. of boost is generally considered safe on good condition stock internals and any amount of boost will require more fuel otherwise you would run lean and most likely melt the edge or a piston.

I do not wanna do that! That would be bad lol! Anyway how would i go about adding more fuel? Would a chip do it? Pressure Regulator? New fuel pump? Is procharger the brand to go with? Any body have any suggestions on anything besides a whipple b/c i can't find one of them. Thanks for the help
I did it for a living for 20 years but none of the supercharger kits for obs trucks are very difficult to do or even very complicated. The F body stuff and Impalas have much less space so they can get more difficult. They usually have intercoolers as well.

Procharger still makes the kit for these trucks according to their website so, summit, jegs, truckperformance.com should have kits.

What horror stories about the Wynjammer? As with any kit, the supplied tune is based on a stock engine. I would consider replacing the fuel pump with any of the superchargers as a no brainer.
I would say those with issues are with a non stock setup.
My Wynjammer works great:rocking:

Sweet good to hear about the wynjammer! I hadn't heard any one on one feedback on it. I couldnt get any one with one to respond i only read the wynjammer tuning thread and it sounded scary. And how does it feel? Big improvement? I have a stock setup so u think the wynjammer would work well? Thanks for the input!

Its pretty loud. Gets a lot of looks.
It knocked ~1 second off of my ET, so it added ~100 hp.
My setup is all stock with over 100,000 miles.

None so far. Drive the truck almost everyday. Installed fall of 07.
The kit didn't come with a BOV and it is needed. I also added a fuel pressure gauge and adjustable regulator to verify I was running the fuel pressure they recommend.

Also what kind of fuel pressure are you running? Sorry for the thread jack but I figure this kind of info is helpful.

Only time I've ever checked the mileage was when I drove it home from Kentucky last July when I bought it.
I would guess its less cause its hard to keep my foot out of it now.:aniteef:

Blow Off Valve. Tune supplied by Wynjammer.

Where would the blow off valve be installed? and is it included in the wynjammer package?

It is an extra ~$65 from Wynjammer. BOV is installed either in the hat or the piping from the blower to the TB.

The Procharger kits are great, and also come with a blow off valve that attatches to the hard piping on the inlet side of the intercooler, just at the supercharger. It works great, sounds awesome, and is very efficient.
Your highway mpg will possibly improve a mpg or two if you cruise nicely, and can keep your foot out of it while driving. The procharger kits for the 88-95 TBI trucks also come with an upgraded line fuel pump, and a regulator as well.
Mine ran great on my stock motor untill I ended up spinning a rod bearing on the tired old thing. :(
That's okay though. RIP 454, VIVA LA 572 SS!

ProCharger is not available through Summit racing or Jegs. Hafta find a ProCharger dealer or distributor...which is pretty easy to do with this lil thing called the internet. You get better service with a dealer like that if you have issues anyway. Most dealers will bend over backwards to help you on the install.
