View Full Version : Looking for NON-RESONATING exhaust system

I can't even remember the last time I posted on here!!!!
Anyway......Looking for an exhaust system (even considered going back to an OEM style) that doesn't make your head go nuts while crusing on the highway for hours on end (gotta love that 1800 rpm resonating tone!).
I've had my fun with the loud exhaust, Lifted truck... but now need to use the truck on many highway journeys to and from racing events towing a trailer. (I'm even going to down size my tires )
Thanks!---Tom

Adding a resonator should help with some unwanted sound frequencies. I know it did with my civic.

Corsa...hands down. They have a no drone policy with their mufflers. I have one for sale if your interested.

If you were willing to go with a stock setup, then I gotta think Dynomax might have some options for you with their super turbo version. No matter what size the v8, that muffler always seems to boost the v8 sounds without making the driver and passengers pay the price with interior noise. I gotta think it is comprable to that 50 series flowmaster that was mentioned. Corsa will definitely get it done, but you will have to budget for that stainless steel stuff.

Stay away from Flowmasters. Everyone that I have ever had droned bad. Ive had old 2 chambers, 3 chambers, 50, 50SUV, and 40 series. Im making the switch to Dynomax monday.

Thanks for the input!!!
I've been running right off the factory "Y" pipe a single 3" pipe to right before the rear axle, from there I installed another "Y" to run dual tail pipes out the rear (45*). No Muffler!
I orginally installed a FLOWMASTER AMERICAN THUNDER system on my truck...just didn't like it.
I'm going to check out the DYNOMAX...Have heard good comments in the past about them as well!!!
Thanks!
Its too loud because your too old
welcome back
magnaflow, sounds like a stock corvette and no drone whatsoever. Thats what I had on my Z71.

I have a dual in-single out Magnaflow on my x-cab 2500hd 4x, and it has more drone than my jeep with flowmaster 40's.
The muffler is in the stock location, using the origial exhaust pipe. Put a resonated tip on it to try to quite it down, didn't help. I love the sound of it, but not the drone.
I understand your needs, I'm getting a little older myself.

I have a SI/DO 22 inch body Magnaflow muffler on my 04 Tahoe Z71 and there is very little drone, if any. before that I had a Flo-Pro 22 inch SI/DO muffler on the Tahoe and it did have a fair bit of drone. The Magnaflow is on the quite side however if that is what you want.

Another vote for the Magnaflow here... been very happy with my cat-back (22" case length, 2.5" DI / 3" SO).

My Flowmaster 70 sounds great, not too loud and NO drone or resonance. Just what it was designed for.

x2 with Stumbler. The 70 series Flowmasters aren't bad. I've got one on my 91 burb. It's a hell of a lot quieter then the 50 series I have on my 86 big block.
