hey guys i just put a dynomax bullet on my 5.3 and when i start my truck after it reaches 2200 rpm as the rpms drop a sort of popping noise comes out of the exhaust i was wondering if this was normal and i just could not hear it with the factory exhaust or if the lack of back pressure is causing something to go wrong with my engine. i also had the same thing happen when i had a flowmaster 40 on my old truck with the 4.8. if i downshifted as the rpms dropped it would make the same popping noise. i was wondering if this could cause any damage? sorry if this is a stupid question but i guess i am a little over paranoid because this is my first new truck. anyway tanks for all the help.

let me get this straight when you are deacelerating you having a poping sound, and you have increased the exhaust pipe to what size? also you have one or two flowmasters? do you have cats or were they removed?

i have a feeling that the excess fuel when off of the throllte is being burned outside of the combtion camber and is getting a backfire which you hear as the popping. in an extreme case yes backfireing is bad but in a limited cases is expected... have you ever seen auto racing? if you have notice the next time when the drivers down shift into a corner and you will hear the cars backfire, it is a normal orcurence and will not hurt anything just make sure that it only happens when you are slowing down. if you have any more question just message me.

no, its common, especially noticeable with glasspacks like your bullets,

it only happens at deceleration. is this going to have any negative effects in the long run with my engine?

hah ya it is a stupid question but thats fine, gotta learn sometime.
Guess youve never driven with open headers before eh? On decel you get BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG all the way down.
Fuel igniting after the engine is no biggie at all.
Bullets arent even really mufflers its a tube with a little bit of fiberglass wrapped around it.
Thats what all cars would sound like on decel if it werent for quiet mufflers.
