fuel gauge not working

i have a 1998 k1500 5.7L 350 and my fuel gauge frecks out it moves back and forth really fast i cant tell how much gas i have in my tank i can turn off my truck and wait for 5 min then start it again and it will show me how much is in there then after about 2 min it starts to do it again its not the sensor on the fuel pump cuz there is a brand new fuel pump in there and it still did it with the old one any one have any ideas? :dunno:

I have the same issue and posted about a week ago. Most said its prob an issue with the harness on the sender and a bunch of other people had the same issue. I haven't had time to look at it but understand how obnoxious it is.

ya its drivning me crazy and i cant take a long trip cuz i dont know when to get gas

i had this same problem and it turned out to be my sending unit, which comes with the fuel pump when you buy a new one. the only other 2 things i can think of is the connector (which also comes with the new fuel pump), or the ground that grounds all your guages...is there anything else that bounces around? like your oil pressure guage?

I changed my Sender twice in two weeks - re did the ground completly on the sender, and new harness... - its not the sender - I just ordered a new guage cluster (escalade) this has got to be the problem.. its not a ground on the cluster, because everything else is fine... - My gas needle was erratic for awhile, just jittery - than when filled up one day, the thing started going clockwise all the way around reallllly fast... than i changed fuel sender and level, and harness, and ground, and took guage cluster out, and turned the needle back into the gas area - turned truck on.. thought it was OK.. later that day, needle started going counter-clockwise really slow.. - Only thing left is guage cluster - you can find one on car-part.com - fairly cheap - just search 98 Escalade - got mine out the door for $65 bux.. ill just take it, and set it back to all 000000 and put a sticker on my door..

check the ground i had the same problem and it turned out to be the ground.

cool i will take it apart and see whats up im hopping it will be just the ground
