Ok, here is the situation. Currently my Chevy 82 305 motor with stock tranny is out and disassembled and ready to put back together. I have a new mild cam, intake and carb for it in not installed yet. I found a good deal on a 78 GMC 3/4 with a 350 in it and a 400 tranny but needs a new carburetor and body is rough. The engine is runing fine, no smoke or noises, looks very clean as if somebody gave up on the project.
My intentions are to use the 82 for show, peel off tires etc...and once in a while maybe haul stuff. Daily driving and work is at the bottom of the list in that order.
Should I just take out 350 + tranny from GMC add the cam, intake and carb and dump it in the 82? Would I have to upgrade my gears? Or just the motor would be ok in the stock 82 drivetrain? Also would the torque be perfect for what I want? These questions would help me confirm what my buddies at work will tell me:aniteef: . I can always put the old cam, carb and intake from my 82 in the GMC and sell it. Thanks a lot.

Well, I have good news. While we were puting everything back together in the "305",my friend who has done many SB rebuilds shows up and says, "that is not a 305, kind of big for a 305, more like a 350" so I grab the measuring tape and measure accross one of the pistons and it was 4" from side to side. hmmm, then again, the guy who I bought it from only had it for a couple of months and gave up in rebuilding the engine and told me the markings on the engine bay said 5.0L so it had to be a 305, but I guess somewhere down the line they changed it to a 350. I also confirmed it here (http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.php) Good thing all the goodies bieng upgraded are for all SB:aniteef: .
