over the years I have bought lots and lots of 3 ton floor jacks. and all have failed, most are made by the same company (the discount and part store brands even sears) MVP or torrin.

A few years ago i bought an older 3 ton craftsman jack and I thought it was a good deal for 25 bucks, it worked great and slowly started to fade. I found a guy to rebuild it for 75 bucks, I am gunna give that a try.

no clue, since my floor jack is not working and wont be back from the guy that is rebuilding it for a bit, i have been using a ten ton bottle jack that has a 17.5 inch max. lift, It works just fine I may keep using that infact I have had very little issues with bottle style jacks. they are just a bit less convient sometimes.

I use the the aluminum 1 1/2 tone floor jack from craftsman. I have had it for 5 years now with zero issues.

Thats why you have jack stands and don't place your life in a jack.

I have one of those high lift MVP jacks, probably 7 years old. Works fine up until this day. Its a little bent though. I made the mistake one day of trying to jack up the rear of my truck form the side on an inclined driveway without blocking the front wheels. As soon as the rear wheel left the ground the truck rolled forward and took the jack with it, bent it all out of shape. I sill use it, once the weight of the truck is on it, it straightens out. Of course, I always use jackstands.

good point...l shoulda mentioned it...jack stands are your friend
if anyone should mention this l should...had a 65 dodge signet fall on me while tryin to remove airshocks when l was 16...only reason lm here was the fact that at least l had stuck a tire and rim under the frame
...like Colin says...jackstands are your friend

I have one of those MVP jacks. It worked great for ten years until I loaned it to a friend who was working on his Camaro project car. I have no f-ing clue what he did to it, but now I can't pick up a deck of cards with it. I used it on all kinds of stuff (including full size trucks) without an issue. He had it for three weeks and it's blown out.

Personally, I would recommend picking up a Sears Craftsman jack. My MVP lasted quite a while, but after talking to most of my friends, that was a rarity.

You get what you pay for and your ride is worth a lot more than $25. Think about that when you're cranking the sucker up with an inferior jack.

I bought my "Michelin" 3.5 ton jack at Sam's Club for about $65. It's not aluminum, so it's VERY heavy, but it has worked flawlessly for me for the past 6 years. It has speedlift, so it comes right up to the lifting point (i.e. frame), but from that point on it does take some pumping to get a fullsize truck off the ground. There are certainly better (and lighter) jacks out there, but, for a budget jack, I think this thing is awesome. They replaced it with a similar "Roush Racing" version for a while, but I believe the Michelin name was back the last time I wandered down that isle.

i've got an MVP 3 ton garage jack (the kind with the non-removable handle) and its been serving me well since 97. jacked up everything from compact cars to my 1 ton crewcab dually with it, never had a problem. i also swear by my jackstands, i've got 2 pairs of 6 ton stands, and 4 or 5 pairs of 2.5-3 ton stands.
