i think you have to have the whole cluster, but you truck should have the wiring harness for the trans temp already

Yep. Just swap in a cluster with the trans temp gauge. All the wiring is already there, so just plug in the cluster and the gauge will work.

you need to put the whole cluster in

You can swap out the gauge, you have to disassemble the cluster and solder in the stepper motor that works the needle then replace the overlay and then have a scan tool that can display the temperature so you can put the needle on in the right place. So it is easier to swap the clusters, or send your cluster to one of those places that can add the gause since they can calibrate it.

Swapping the cluster will be a whole lot easier, and takes less than 5 minutes to swap.
The only difference is that a new cluster will show 0 miles, or a used cluster will show however many miles the donor truck had.

BTW, you'll need an 03+ cluster.

What about for a '00 model? Also don't the newer truck have a higher reading speedo? And what would I do about the milage?

Escalade, 00-02. That gets you a 120 speedo and trans temp guage. Have it reprogrammed or leave it.

The dealership will reprogram your new cluster for you. It is illegal not to have the mileage accurate...(Or you can leave it at zero and clearly state that it was changed at a certian mileage but it will look really shady when you go to resale and value will go to **** so its your choice.

Get an Escalade cluster for a 00-02, and it will have the trans temp gauge and 120 MPH speedometer. You can go to the dealership to have the odometer reprogrammed.

That price is insane. GM sells them cheaper.
