So I finally started in my interior in the Tahoe, gonna be doin everything myself except the seats. Will be going from tan to a light grey and black.
Decided to start with the sub box...before

After...
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn97/mikeharris1288/MikesPictures087.jpg
Then headliner...

http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn97/mikeharris1288/MikesPictures088.jpg
Then the rear doors...
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn97/mikeharris1288/MikesPictures089.jpg
Today I painted the top of the rear doors grey and got them completed and finished all the other stuff on the headliner (vents, handles, etc.) but didn't take pics yet.
Also got the windows tinted

What you've done looks great. i think it'd be better without those running boards though.

If you like the running boards, keep em. Otherwise you would have a super clean Hoe (like the badge too :rocking: ) what kind of wheels are those?
mikeharris
07-02-2008, 08:15 AM
Thanks guys I'm not sure about the running boards myself too, I just dont want to see the frame if I take them off, I need to just try it I guess.
The wheels are Boss 330s
DirtyGmc

looks good.
is it 2wd or 4wd? i think it would look killer with maybe 2" of drop to fill the wheel wells a little more. Id also keep the running boards to keep the paint from chipping.

I had a problem with ugly exposed frame, so i just layered on a few quick coats of spray paint. But like i said, don't get rid of them just because some people tell you too :)
What are your future plans for the "Hoe"?
mikeharris
07-02-2008, 09:51 AM
Its 4WD, not sure about lowering it, prolly nit but nit 100% sure yet, I like the stance right now.
Future plans include exhaust, color matched bumpers, and prolly headlights to finish the exterior, also a tahoe emblem from the 07 and up models to go in the bodyline.
Interior I wanna fiberglass a double din into the dash and do speaker pods for two sets of compnents up front. Finish interior with black carpet and do the door panels then thats prolly it

I forgot about the seats, def. gonna redo those too, light grey with black suede inserts, and to somethin to the brakes too, maybe some headrest screens for the front seats :dunno:

Thats kinda what I'm leanin towards, but maybe try it myself or take it to a pro to get it done. I just dont want it to turn out like some I've seen and be all wrinkled and ****, but I would def like to tackle it myself. I guess we'll see, it will be a while anyways.

My headliner was kinda tough only because of the rear A/C with all the contours.
For the paint I used SEM interior/vinyl spray paint...Landau black and Storm Grey.

Yeah its 4x4, I'm not sanding any of the pieces cuz I want it to look stock so I'm leaving the texture. On the door panels and some pieces I'm using adhesion promoter tho so it grabs a bit better. Even clear coating some things

I'll prolly try that its just a hard ass bolt, it took forever just to cut the head off.
The wheels are 24s, and yes they do stick out some in the front, which is the only part about them I don't really care for, but ehh whatever.
And I have done a little interior work before, I helped a buddy on his interior, all I did was the headliner and the pillars, and painted one door. I think the key to it all os patience and attention to detail, I try and take my time with it all and just go piece by piece.
Thanks for the props guys, no updates really as I am busy building a sub box for a guy and waiting for my carpet to dry and rain to stop so I can try and dye it and paint some more pieces
I'll post pics as soon as I get some work done tho

did you split the visors to do them? If so what did you use to glue them back together. Yes the doors and panels are painted with the storm grey, for the visors I just split them and cut all the fabric off and wrapped them then painted theplastic pieces. Then I squirted some loctite stuff on them, the stuff from the commercial you ise with a caulk gun and clamped them til they dried.
I'm gonna check out those seat covers asap, I'm gonna need some to finish the interior fully.

So far that is just about everything I want to do to my interior haha. Pics look great. I can't wait to see the finished look!
I know you said the color was storm grey and when I looked at SEM paint colors your grey and their grey don't seem to match. I love the color of yours but it looks a lot whiter than their grey...
mikeharris
07-10-2008, 07:58 PM
I was pretty skeptical about the color at first too so I looked at all the greys available and landed on storm grey. It does come out lighter than expected tho, but that is actually what I was hoping for, the color is exactly the shade I wanted.

you should give a shot. I think a couple applications would work best and then clean it afterwards cuz it will rub off even after its dry. I put it in today and am pleased with the results, its not a super rich black but the rest of my interior is so dark its hard to tell.
It also prolly doesn't help that I went from a light color to a dark color, give it a shot, that rear piece cost me a total of about $15 to do and took about an hour to cover, then just had to let it dry

I think it just depends on what your material is made out of, some materials do not accept dye.
I am not sure what will and what will not accept dye but I know polyester will not. I would check with a fabric store or somethin just to make sure

Mike,
I drive a 2003 ECSB Arrival Blue Silverado. I have been debating white katzkin's with some black suede inserts with their pacific blue trim but until this thread the idea had been slipping since nothing else is white (except for the faces of the escalde gauges.) I love the way your truck is turning out and I am now revisting old idea's with with white since that storm grey looks pretty white.
Since you obviously know what it looks like in person, do you think it would be "off" if I matched it with white leather? One other downside is that with a black interior the limo tint would look a lot darker whereas a white interior would lighten up the tint.
So many options, I just need to get stated on something. I'll try and post up some pictures of my truck tonight.
mikeharris
07-17-2008, 10:32 PM
Kev2809 the dash is just gonna be prepped and painted, no sanding. I wanna keep the texture on everything to make it look like it had always been that color from the factory.
Kermitt, your def right about the tint, my interior is super dark, but it doesn't bother me. If you did white then I would think it should be relatively lighter inside the cab.
Personally I would not do the storm grey with white leather. SEM does make about three shades of grey tho, on is fairly close to the dark grey interior of your body truck, and the other is in between that and storm grey. I would go with one of the darker ones to give it some contrast. Just like what your thoughts with white/blue were,
To me, white needs to be either subtle in an interior or dominant. You are thinking white/black/blue, I would stick with that and notbring grey into the equation at all. A 4 tone interior would be hard to pull off IMO

As you can tell by what im doin I like grey/black, but I also think a dark grey/blue would go well if done right. Use the grey as your main color (or possibly black) and tie in some blue accents, such as seat inserts and door inserts???

Not too much new stuff as I'm gettin close to done with the exception of the seats, but I did get the driver door panel done and the driver side visor done. That whole result is just awesome. I'd like to do my 2dr's headliner over with the faux suede, I was thinking of gray for the headliner and maybe charcoal for the carpeting but I haven't decided. I'll probably wind up just putting a new gray carpet in if I do the ceiling gray.

Its pretty good against scratches. The only areas where it is not holding up good is places on the doors that rub interior pieces everytime they open/close. I dont like it but nothin I can do about it, they will always rub. Everything else is working great, center console, door panels, etc. have not rubbed off at all anywhere.

yes, they came just as screens and I used the stock headrests. I know its a steal, they were originally priced $130 a piece at the pawn shop, and I got both of em for that price.
you should give a shot. I think a couple applications would work best and then clean it afterwards cuz it will rub off even after its dry. I put it in today and am pleased with the results, its not a super rich black but the rest of my interior is so dark its hard to tell.
It also prolly doesn't help that I went from a light color to a dark color, give it a shot, that rear piece cost me a total of about $15 to do and took about an hour to cover, then just had to let it dry[/QU what did you use to clean it after it dried? did the dye rub off after the cleaning?
Its pretty good against scratches. The only areas where it is not holding up good is places on the doors that rub interior pieces everytime they open/close. I dont like it but nothin I can do about it, they will always rub. Everything else is working great, center console, door panels, etc. have not rubbed off at all anywhere.

are those kicker L7's tell me what you think about them.

Thanks guys. I have not cleaned the carpet yet and it is still rubbing off in spots.
Yes the subs are Kicker L7s, 15s. I like em, they are by no means a SQ sub but thats not what I am looking for. They get loud and hit the lows great with my box, but I used to have 2 12s in a pre-fab box and they hit hard too. Just diff. notes. Overall I like them

Your rig looks amazing, I wish I had the scene where I could have a vehicle to work on all the time and make it my own personal icon. I was looking at some speakers to go under the seat in my extended cab and the L5 8 inch put out the mild 1200 peak that I would want. I still dont know, too much to choose from!!!

Yea, i checked out all the pics and I'm impressed. My only concern would be gettin a dye that is BLACK Black to match my leather when I get it done. Also, will the dye fade when I coat the light gray areas.
mikeharris
10-03-2008, 03:52 PM
I apllied a good bit of dye, and you are right it is not as black as it would be from the factory or if you ordered a new replacement carpet. You can only tell when the sun hits it tho. It almost has a purple tint to it, so I may eventually replace it with somethin anyways I dunno yet tho

I'm planning on painting the doors completely black, will I have to use the paint that you used to paint your doors grey, or can I use the dye? and How well does the dye hold up on the Kick panels and other vinyls?

Limited, I would recemmend using the SEM paint for the doors and all the plastics. It holds up well, on places you think will get more abuse, use adhesion promoter and a few more coats than usual

Yep yep, I'm goin to get started soon on my interior. Wonderin how all black is goin to come out. I know I need some sort of accents in there, especially on the dash.
mikeharris
10-07-2008, 08:47 AM
yeah all black would be really dark, when I replaced my headliner, which I did first, it darkened it up a bunch just from that. Then throw in black carpet, tint, seats and doors...it would be very dark I'm sure. What if you did black with like some dark grey inserts in the doors and stuff
LimitedChevy
10-07-2008, 09:54 AM
I've been thinkin about that. One thing i know is that i plan on gettin Katzkin to do my new seats, they have a dealer here in Memphis. My seats will be all black with light grey or dark grey stitchin, possibly with suede centers. If I do dark grey and black, I'll use the storm grey on the fabric of the door where the handle is and MAYBE on the bottom fabric where the speaker is. Also I might get those chrome interior door handles. Im goin to experiment with pieces from the junk yard after I clean them thoroughly of course. I'll post pics, and if you come across some more headrest monitors, let me know. I have an idea for some in the Limited!:aniteef:

10-07-2008, 03:05 PM
alright will do, you wouldn't happen to know a price of the Katzkin kit from said dealer would you?
LimitedChevy
10-07-2008, 11:46 PM
The dealer told me a rough estimate of about $985 for the front and rear seats. Not too bad, Don's Auto Upholstery to me about $1800. Don's has a great reputation but they are high as hell. Not too sure which one I'm gonna go with. I have the numbers if you need them.

10-08-2008, 09:14 AM
