I drove my first vehicle equipped with a LS style engine Monday, and I was very impressed. I needed a rental car for a trip, it was supposed to be some type of small car, but after sighing paperwork they said if I was willing to wait 10 minutes, they would have a better car ready to go, if not, then I was getting the Honda. I decided to wait.
The car was a Buick Lacrosse Super, with the 5.3L V8 and Active Fuel Management. I think that it puts out about 315HP. It would squall the tires from a 20 mph roll with TC still on.
The combined fuel economy was 20 MPG.
Highway economy was 28 MPG at 65 to 70 MPH, and 26 MPG at 80 to 85 MPH.
IMO, that's very impressive numbers for a V8 fore door sedan. Too bad it's wrong wheel drive.
