Talk to Charlie @ Gowheatley.com . He's done several cam installs and has done the tuning for them.

He recently did one on a 6.2 denali, tuned it.. and it ripped the drive shaft right out from under it.

The cam install isn't expensive, actually a fairly cheap mod retrospect to other mods. I think you could do it for under $500. Thats cam/install/tune.

If you get a choppy cam its not going to have torque. You'll need a new torque converter with most cams to keep it from being a dog out of the hole.

Maybe with used parts you could do it that cheap but I dunno. A new cam alone is $400. And you will NEED valve springs. And the denali was full bolt on as well as cammed. :D

Lots of places sell cams, almost all of those places get them from Comp. Prices for just the cam are 379-405 depending on where you get it from. Springs are 50-160 for the cam youd want to run depending on the lift of the cam.

It seems a lot of guys put a Z06 cam and springs in the 6.0...you can find all those parts for $300. Not sure about specifics on gains tho.

Depends on what you want, you can get a cam spec'd for torque. It wont be super choppy but you will know there is a cam in the truck.

Are you going to use a higher stall converter or a stock stall? That will be a big deciding factor on what cam to run.

I did that with a 5.0/305. Split the massive aluminum driveshaft into two pieces.

The nali didnt even twist it off IIRC it just couldnt handle the speed which is sorta common on cc trucks.

That is why a 2nd gear dyno pull should be considered a MUST with a truck.
