Just went thru my 1st tank of gas on my new 383 and averaged 12.8mpg over 410 miles of mostly city driving.
I passed the 500 mile mark yesterday so I ran her up to 5000rpm. It almost seems wrong  for a Suburban to be this quick. The poor little Ricer with the huge fart pipe bit off more than he could handle...

I'm impressed, assuming you have the same tank size I do - 410 miles from a 25 gallon tank (16.4mpg). But based on your stated mpg assessment (12.8 mpg), seems you've gone through more than one tank.
I get about 375 miles/tank (15 mpg) combined: city/hwy/towing. I'd love to have a 383 when my current motor fails - more torque is always nice. :10: But until that happens, I'm content to rock the 5.7L :rocking:

its not uncommon for a new motor to get lower fuel economy before its been broken in. and if its not a new motor, there's a pretty good chance that the ECM hasnt been finely tuned for the combo.

I have a 42 gallon tank. Cost me $125 to fill it today and I wasn't on empty.
When I had the ECM reprogrammed it made a world of difference on the driveability.
It is a new motor so I was pretty happy with 12.8mpg city because every new motor I've had has been a gas hog until broke in.
I've already put 100 miles on this tank today so I should have this motor broke in soon.
I'm planning on going to the track(1/4) to race against my wife's 06 Mustang sometime in October or may wait until March when they open for next season.

Them ricers do that ALOT! It's always nice to prove to em that a coffee can exhaust tip and 200 stickers don't equal out to power.
