View Full Version : Do magnaflow kits need to be welded?

I see them advertised on some sites as being bolt on, but when I check out the magnaflow installation sheet from their website, it states they should be welded? The kit I'm looking at comes with the C-clamps, and doesn't mention in the steps to weld, but right at the top of the sheet it says that welding is required? What's the deal? Can I run it with just the clamps for a few days without it falling off until I can get a chance to borrow a welder next week? Or does it need welding at all? Or should I not drive it at all without welding it?

Thanks in advance.

Use the clamps to put it together. They recommend welding but it's not needed. Just tighten the clamps down to 75ft-lbs and it'll never go anywhere.

My Magnaflow kit came with the band style clamps, I just tightened them with my snap-on 3/8" drive impact until they stopped turning. I just checked all the clamps last night with a wrench and couldn't budge them.

Looks like I'll be running clamps alone then. Thanks everyone.

IMO it's better to use the clamps incase you ever want to run a different muffler or pipe so you don't have to cut it out.

Well magnaflow was kind enough to send me a 3 1/2" clamp instead of the required 4" clamp. Looks like this project won't be getting finished tonight. I'll pick up a 4" clamp tomorrow (hopefully) and give magnaflow a call on Monday.
