well guys i just did my drivers door tonight while my installer and i were bored at work. i used Dynamat Xtreme and did the inner and outer door skin (16 sq ft per door) i bought a trunk kit (20 sq ft) and a door kit (12 sq ft) to take care of the front doors. the only other dynamat we had in stock right now is a bunch of packages of 4 sq feet. which out of those, i need 5 of them (20 sq ft) to do the rear doors but i only have 4 so some outer skin is gonna have to wait on one door, unless i find some else laying around. We are doing the other 3 doors tommorow night while im at work. i can already notice a huge difference in that one door on the way home tonight for bass response on the chitty RE door speakers that im rolling right now haha. I will be ordering my Type X comp's next paycheck, unless i need more money for my 35's. Anyways, onto the pics and ill add more tommorow night.

I would suggest you use expanded metal or galvanizes steel screwed onto your door to cover up the big holes on your inner skin. Use self tapping screws, except make sure not to hit the window track bracket, cause you will not be able to roll your window down haha. The sheet metal will give your dynamat support

Werd, I was gonna ask if you covered that hole with any thing solid or just the deadner?
Nick Z71
09-25-2008, 10:44 PM
i oppositely covered it with another layer to make it more stable. why does that even matter?
BaMaDuDe87
09-25-2008, 10:52 PM
Just makes it that much more sturdy. It improves clairty, increases bass output from your drivers(kind of like a properly sealed sub box v. a leaky one), and cuts down on more rattles and squeaks. If your happy with how it sounds though then its good enough

i personally dont understand why a metal plate would make a difference. i mean there are still holes obviously so the door panel can go on so who cares? lol

Werd your right, just most people try to close all the holes as the deaden. Looks good, now get the rest done

GEEK SQUAD!!!!!!!! Looks good but I would've covered the big holes up before the dynomat too for some rigidity.

preciate. i dont have a speaker in the passenger door right now and on the way to school this morning i noticed a HUGE, absolutely HUGE difference in bass response from these RE's i have in the door right now. i found like 2 sq ft of dynamat laying around the shop today so im gonna steal that to finish that last door.

Ok think about it, put a speaker in a cube MDF enclosure covered with MDF only on 5 sides with one side covered in a plastic bag or something, when you play the speaker the plastic bag will flex and cancel out some of your sound waves. So you speaker wont play at maximum output and clarity. Now compare that to a speaker in a full sealed MDF enclosure. Which would you prefer? the non flexing one I would suppose

Its not that hard if you do decide to do it, I think I got like 24 ga. galvanized roof flashing, got some tin snips, a grinder with a cutting wheel and some 1/2" long self tapping screws, didnt take longer than 2 hours to do up both doors with the flashing, you really arent sealing up the door, but just giving the deadener support where it needs support so it wont flex, here is a picture of my install:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a20/DIRT-RIDER/05-03-08_0015.jpg
theres more pictures of my install halfway down or so on my first page, of this forum: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/general-discussion/audio-video-electronics/324458-door-sound-deadening-complete-pics.html
Another thing do you plan on installing some baffles?
Nick Z71
09-26-2008, 02:35 PM
what do you mean by baffles?
Undisputed King
09-26-2008, 03:39 PM
like my MDF baffles up above around where the speaker mounts. It also helps out, helps clarity, it isolates the speaker from the sheet metal to increase clarity or something like that. Do some research on baffles. Just dont make them outta 3/4" mdf haha, try something like 1/2" cutting board material. The 3/4" MDF was too thick,i needed to chop up the door panel, and still needed to be sealed.

Yea, you should really think about putting some flashing or something to stiffen that up a little, but better than nothing.

Thanks guys. i just wanted something better. i dont have all the time and money to do all that extra stuff. but i know i know, do it right or dont do it at all, but im rolling more dynamat already than 90% of the people in my city. plus it sounds 10x times better. i didnt get to finish the drivers ext cab door. only did 1/3 of the inner skin bc i ran out of dynamat, and bought all we had in stock lol.

Time and money? How long and how much do you think that costs?
Flashing can be had for like 5-6 bucks at home depot and it takes maybe 20 minutes longer to cut it out.
Not trying to rag on you, like you said, youre definitely on the right path and have done more than 90% of the people out there. Just trying to let you know its a simple, cheap thing to do, and the results are fantastic.
I wish now that I would have done more to stiffen up my flashing though. I think gluing a strap of aluminum to it (1/8" thick, by 1" wide by the length of the piece) would have helped, especially with 8s in the doors.

Yeah but I was using Second Skin Damplifier Pro. 50mm thicker and 2mm thicker foil. heavy duty stuff. but if I got Dynamat at 75% off...

fiberglassing is an alternative to the metal flashing.
You guys with the hook ups for sound deadener, spread the wealth!!!
The rattling is killing me and I'm not even sure where it's coming from!

Well guys. HUGE update. Friday I spent 9 hours with me and two friends and Dynamatted the headliner, floor, and rear firewall. also relocated my amps and cleaned everything up. Let me know what you think! on the floor i only did from underneath the front seats back seeing as how i ran out of dynamat. I will finish that at a later date. Let me know what you think and ill post a video here in a minute of the subs. any recomendation on what to do with those cabin pressure things on my rear firewall? they make 'flapping' sounds when my bass hits and its annoying.
