I found an 86' Chevy 4x4 that Im interested in to make a mud/offroad toy project out of.

The truck has a rebuilt 350, doesnt say how many km's since. New clutch and front bearings, and all the metal and glass is good. My first truck ever was an 84' so I have a soft spot for these things, but this one is a 4-speed 4x4 and mine was a 305 2wd.

Are there any major issues I should inquire about? Or anything I should check for and look out for?

Heres a link to the add for anyone who's interested

One thing is to check the frame around the steering gear box--they like to crack there. If it is cracked, you can get a repair kit for ~$90. You'd have to take the box off, weld the cracks, and weld the plates over the frame.

looks pretty close..

another thing i would look for, just because its rebuilt, pull the dipstick to see if theres coolant in the motor, crawl under the truck and look at the floor boards, inner rockers, cab supports, trans/xfer case mount. if any of them look bad they can be a pain to change out with new metal, and that mount can be hard to change if you dont have a jack that will reach that high. look for any leaks. check the weather stripping make sure its not all cracked.

This is canada, if you can find a running 4x4 for under 2 grand your pretty lucky.

Went and looked at the truck, pretty much the entire thing scream hack job. I may be anxious to get a big toy, but not desperate. Thanks for the info guys.
