I don't think you will be touching the ground with a 5/7...but you'll be damn close.

1. You can't have a 5/7" drop with bags---Helper bags being the exception.
2. If you used 3" spindles combined with bags (They replace the front coil springs), then it would be possible to do both. Basically, you would be able to adjust the ride height from being nearly on the ground, to stock.
3. The rear suspension varies because of the many options. You can use the stock leaf springs with a custom bag setup, install a 4-link, and etc.. You would have the best of both worlds though.
4. It depends on how much cash you have to spend, and a greater understanding of what exactly you want. If you went with a quality bag setup (ART), then you would not only be able to lay-out when wanted, but also raise the ride height to tow/haul more than the truck could STOCK.
Sorry, but it's hard to explain exactly what your options are when your not familiar with an air suspension setup. No offense man.............:D

Don't worry about lowc10 laughing at you, he's spent more on static lowering parts than I spent parts and labor.:read: :D
Anyway you seem a bit confused, so here's some info for ya.
A 5/7 drop is verry low, but managable for a dailydriver on a '88-'98.
When baggin' your truck the only thing you'll use from a 5/7 is the spindels, so I'd say just buy the spindels and bag parts, unles money is an issue and you want to be low now. Oh yeah, don't do an a rear set up with leafs unless it's just helper bags, do a link set up.:read:
You can do bags on a completly stock truck, but it won't lay out. It's the same process as baggin' a truck with spindles.

talk to people like Larry (irsdmini) or Tony (tony@airride) about picking out components for your specific considerations. you will defintely need a notch to lay, but then you wont be able to get up very high (like 3-4 inches lower than stock fully inflated)
good luck with this project. it might seem confusing at first, but stick with it, you will understand more as time goes by. dont feel affraid to ask dumb Q's ( i definetly had a couple of those) and read up about bags and systems.

I didn't know they made 3" lowering spindles, and just because you are running bags doesn't mean you can haul/tow more than stock. This is a dangerous statement thrown around to much. Because if you lower it 5/7 you will have to have lower profile tires and they are not rated to handle as much weight...

:cussing: Sorry, I was thinking about 73-87' trucks. Yes, you are correct about the tow/haul comment, but you know what I mean! :D
