can someone tell me what this means?? im a little confused at the way my light was flashing. let me start by asking if jumping the two upper right wires on the plug is actually what im supposed to do to pull stored cel codes?

this is on my 90 pickup 2500

here is what i got....
12,12,12,4,3,4,3,4,3 then it starts at 12 again and starts over...i was kind of expecting to see each number once...

here is whats goin on... so my truck turns over for about 4 seconds before it starts.. seems to be a common thing with all the obs trucks i have owned and my uncles does it too.. also my speedo isnt working(not the cable type) my brake light on the dash is staying on actually now that i jumped A and H its flashing all the time now(9 quick and 1 long flash). im not sure about this part. on the freeway it seems like it should be shifting into overdrive. when driving on the freeway if i go too fast and let it wind way up the service engine light will come on until i turn the truck off. just seems like its winding out going like 50ish(cant tell with no speedo) on my shifter window thing there is no OD icon just PRD21 does this truck have over drive? i got it from my moms husband and it was sitting for a few years when i got it running again. he cant remember much about how it drove.

Looks like you got it right.
The 12 is right, that means it's in diagnostic mode, then it does 12 at the end again. Then it starts all over.
Your code is a 43.
Looks like you have a turbo 400. Should be atleast. So to answer your question no overdrive.

For you brake light flashing that is also a code. Someone should be able to tell you how to find that.

For your engine code, you can search on here, and you will find a website in the other posts, that tell you what your codes mean.
Don't remeber that one off the top of my head.

Code 43 is esc circuit.(ie knock sensor or esc module)
code 9 is vss sensor isnt working. thats why it isnt going into overdrive or rear abs isnt working and speedo isnt working.

If his cluster doesn't have overdrive, I bet he's got a Turbo 400.

so knock sensor error would explain the check engine light on the freeway then huh? is there a way to test them? or pretty much just replace and see what happens. the vss should be on the transfer case on this truck right? is there a way to tell what tranny i have by looking at it?

also is there anything i can do about how long it turns over before firing? im going to be doing a tune up this weekend and fuel filter. but from my previous experience it didnt help much on my old tahoe or my 91 ext cab. what about pulling the throttle body and giving that a good cleaning?

extended cranking could be lack of fuel pressure. fuel pressure should be 9-13psi.
could also be a timing/ignition issue. timing should be set to zero degrees with est wire disconnected.

since mine is a TBI are the knock sensors under the intake like on the newer trucks? is there a way to tell which one is bad or is it better to just do both? or do i even have 2?

you only have one knock sensor and its on the side of the engine. A dark blue wire goes to it. what engine is it?

Brandyn85

5.7 l oh if its on the side it should only take a few minutes then huh

yeah dont do it while the engine is hot. coolant will pour out.

sweet im going to do it tomorrow and see if i cant figure out my speedo issue too

the knock sensor should be on the passenger side of the block near the starter.
the vss sensor should be on the transfer case.

i just ran outside to see if i could see where the knock sensor and vss is located, is the vss the very back sensor on the transfer cae that has a yellow and purple wire going to it? and i couldnt see the knock sensor but it was dark and rainy so i didnt want to get under there yet.

go here for vss:

not exactly sure where its at on the transfer case.

Go to Auto Zones site"

http://www.autozone.com/addVehicleId,1004703/shopping/vehicleSelected.htm

add your vehicle and click on repair info. It will give you locations and has wiring diagrams so you can check your wire colors.
