Well i have had my truck for 4 years now and have always ran a high flow cat and that was it. The only reason was becasue i bought it that way. Do mufflers help with overall performance of the engine as far as torque and rpms. I usally drive 60 miles a day and tow often. My truck is a 90 chevy shot box 2wd 350tbi

Well if you want to i'd say invest in some longtube headers it'll pull the exhaust out of the cylinder chambers faster, so at that point you might as well get all new piping run 2.5" true duals with an H-pipe, then with 2 high flow cats run straight through type mufflers and you'll be good, plenty of flow and torque for pulling. Or if you don't want duals then a 3" single with 1 cat and muffler also work and you'll probably get slightly more torque that way.

Sweet thanks for the information. The truck already has new 3inch pipe and cat from last month so i will get a muffler for it.

So it's all new 3" single, ok then just get a nice straight through muffler. I suggest a Magnaflow Performance because it sounds awesome and comes with a lifetime warranty. If you want it to split into duals get a single in dual out muffler. Or if you want single all the way back, you can also get a Magnapack which is like a glasspack but doesn't burn out and sounds deeper.

I ran my 90 model like that with a glasspack, but mine was dualed out. I also had shorty JBA headers, ASP underdrive pulleys, Edelbrock intake, home-made ram air with the stock air box and a K&N filter. Oh yeah and a Hypertech Thermomaster chip with 160 degree stat. Ran like a bat out of hell, Out pulled my dad's 90 model with similar mods and really out did his when it came to MPG.
