Ok so I just purchased a 08 1500 LT with the crew cab with the 4.8L. Got a great deal on it so I couldn't pass it up. I'm looking into getting a new exhaust system and then new air intake. I'll probably go with K & N air intake (unless you all think I shouldn't) But I'm stumped for what I should get for exhaust. I used to own a 95 1500 with a 5.7 and I had flowmaster in it and it sounded great.
What system will sound/perform best with my new truck? I'm looking for a nice low end rumble but be loud and aggressive as I come up. And then the obvious performance increase and gas mileage is taken into consideration as well. I want an easy bolt-on kit, and my price limit is roughly 500 for the exhaust. Any good ideas?

Dollar 4 dollar, Gibson is what I chose ! I do believe Magnaflow is a good product, heck, that's what is on my '05 corvette, but for a truck, my belief is Gibson was the better choice.

I have an AirAid intake which is the best intake... and a bigger plus is they are one of the best priced.... and I did their TB spacer too... and I have a Gibson Cat-Back.... and I also have an Edge Evolution tunder.... the combination makes a huge difference...

I have had Gibson systems. First owner of my truck put the dual extreme model on. I took it off because after 4 years of use the muffler rotted all the way through. I was new to trucks at the time and wanted something cheap and different so I went with their super truck system. 4 years later and again, the muffler was rotted and there was a big rotted hole in one of the tail pipes. Now, both systems were aluminzed steel, which we all know doesn't hold up well to salted roads and humid climates. I did like both systems, but I was not going to risk another internally rotted muffler in a few years time.
If you want longevity, sound, and power. Magnaflow is a great choice. To get the same results with Gibson, you would need to opt for stainless steel and once you do that the price is comparable with Magnaflow. If I were forced to choose between the two brands. I would give Magnaflow a try only because I know 4 years down the road the muffler of the Gibson will be ready to be replaced again.

you do realize that gibson has an upgraded stainless steel kit, so that would fix the problem

Id skip the K&N intake. I have one and my IAT's are usually about 20-30 degrees higher than the outside ambient air temp.

Yep, sure am. But for me, if one needs to opt for an ss system, there are much better and even cheaper alternatives to the Gibson stuff.
When I was recently back and forth on what I was going to replace my rotted Super Truck system with, I considered going back to the Dual Extreme in stainless steel as I really did like the characteristics off that system. But for the cost of that upgrade I would have been better off giving Magnaflow a try.

yeah, K&N is the worlds biggest advertisement gimick, all those companies with "cold air intake" that replace the factory box with a "heat shield" are a waste. Ive heard they run their dyno tests with the hood open and a fan blowing cold air onto the intake. Ive used a baking thermometer and the air on the filter side of the heat shield of my K&N is the same as on the engine side. Just replace your filter with a high flow replacement filter and get a new intake tube and leave factory air box intact, its pretty good at what it does.

I couldn't agree more. The first thing everyone wants to do when they get a new stock truck is to give the stock intake stuff the boot. There are so many better and cheaper mods that actually do something other than lighten your wallet. The K&N gimick for me is a great reminder to always research to the best of my ability any potential mod before buying. Word of mouth and real world experiences that forum members share help the most but there are still so many that swear by those intakes so it's still tough to weed through all the biased info out there.

like I said earlier, I bet they did the dyno run on a cold engine with the hood open and a big fan blowing on the engine bay. Also why do you think half of that show is spent talking about the "sweet new products" from their sponsors, that show is cool but never trust them, they get big money to instal that stuff and claim that it works. My truck has a big difference (although part of that is only perceived because of the noise lets be honest, engine sounds like it is charging harder) but only when it is cold, as soon as the underhood temps rise, power falls flat on its face, it has gotten worse since the headers have raised my uht's. That and the cheapo gasket that supposedly seals against the hood, rotted and fell off after a little more than a year and made the hot air problem even worse. If someone can tell me how, I will show you some IAT numbers to back this up.

I have airaid and it is the top of the line intake out there.... as for UHT... my hood blows cold air into the intake so Im set.... AirAid has been proven with the hood closed, without the fan, both used and new, to filter better, deliver colder air, and to deliver more air for more HP....

the new k&N actually has a cover that goes over the filter and bolts down its actually a nicer then previous models i dunno even if it doesnt work to that extent it dresses up under my hood alittle nicer

so what im catchin onto about the exhaust is magnaflow? that seems to be what most everyone is sayin. possibly duals out a single side and limit the length of pipe to loose my sound in?

Yup, If you want slightly louder and more aggressive than stock then its magnaflow ftw. I just put one on my truck and even dumped before the rear axle, my magnaflow does not drone at any RPM or any load on the engine, it is whisper quiet with the windows up, cant even hear it with the AC on. This is all driving around town mind you, no open road yet but Im not expecting much different. Only way to know it is there is that at idle it has a real meaty bass note that rumbles in the cab. Outside it is real tame and mellow until you thrash on it, then it gets a lot louder than my old 50 series flowmaster that it replaced, but it is real smooth, no rasp or crackling.
Bassani and Corsa are the way to go if you want something that screams like hell but doesnt drone or sound like a tractor (cough... cherrybombandflowmaster cough...)

and ftw the shorter the magnaflow the louder it will be if u want a good sound i recommend something no longer then a 14in case and maybe a 4x9 case magnapacks are fantastic IMO, but ud have to put a Y on the end if u wanted dual unless u went true duals i would run a tailpipe i think they sound much better but thats my opinion
