It's not to bad to do. For safety reasons and the fact you aren't blowing your horn like a idiot while you are doing it. I would disconnect the battery. After that look on each side of the airbag towards where it meets the column you will see one hole on each side in the plastic shroud. It is very small If you have a small allen key set it works best for me. anyway fine the two largest ones that fit the holes then put one in on each side and push in you will feel a spring like tension. If you are doing it correctly you will see the air bag coming foward. Help it out once it comes forward be careful if you rip it to hard obviously you could damage the wire attached to the clockspring. I hope this helps

I'd give it about 30 mins after disconnecting the battery before you start messing with anything. There is usually a capacitor to store some power to activate the air bag in case of a wreck that causes an instant power loss.

I've worked with airbags before (both the ones in cars and the one I am married to..... LOL) and know the usual safety precautions. Thanks for the reminders. I remember a mechanic telling me one time after reassembling the SRS system, that he always turned the key on from the passenger's seat, just in case something went wrong.

I always thought something would go wrong as soon as the battery is hooked back up!

On disconnecting the battery, how long can I leave it unhooked before I risk having to go back to the dealer to have stuff reprogrammed? Also, I wonder if it would be a good idea to return my truck to the stock PCM program before unhooking the battery...

I had to do a security relearn after installing the wheel, if you need instructions, let me know.
