Okay guys, thanks for those measurements. That's a shame though, I was hoping to fit a fifteen inch subwoofer in thatspot as it looked wider. Maybe I'll go with some of those camaro seats instead so that I can't still follow through with my sound system, and then it is slightly more original. But that all depends on how much work it'll take to get them in there correctly. But I'm off to the salvage yard tomorrow to hopefully find somethin useful, wish me luck!
Thanks again guys,

I posted this over in my build thread but got no repsonses... not really a high traffic area lol...
I didn't like the look of the stock speaker grilles so I used my old W/T speaker grilles and combined them with the higher trim level ones to make these:

Maybe somebody will find some inspiration in them.
The rest of my interior isn't worth posting, seeing as it's leaning against the wall.

how did you remove that upper seude part. I can't get mine off and would love love love love to get it redone or maybe even fiberglass it and glossy it. :naughty::naughty::naughty:

The cloth door piece is not removeable. You cut the suede about 1in larger all the way around. Tape off where you dont want glue. Then spray glue on both pieces then use a plastic butter knife to push the suede into the edges. Then use a razor blade to trim excess. There are a couple write ups on camo interior that give better instructions.
I also covered the long overhead console and both visors. The visors were a major PITA! Everything else was fairly simple.

I've had a couple of upholstery shops claim they could get the factory fabric, they did mention it was a bitch to get the seams just right due to the fact it's bonded to the foam. They said they could do it though, and then gave me a price of $700 to recover my '94 highback buckets. :( :(
They're sitting high up on a shelf right now, while that near-new looking 60/40 is in the truck.
Richard
The factory boned seats can be recovered, I did mine 6 years ago when I got my truck. They are a pain in the a$$ to do, but they can be done and for alot less than the price you were quoted.
Plus it helps that I have been around upholstery work for 20+ years now.

I know a guy who will make house calls to repair to your interior. He also has a shop for more custom jobs. He repaired some stitching on my dad's benz a couple of months ago. I haven't finished acquiring parts for my new OBS interior, but when I do, I'm giving him a call. PM me and I'll get you his contact info if you want.

Do you have a web link (customcovers.com?) or know who installed them?
I'm going to replace the ones in my 1998, but have seen some not-so-good looking fitments with aftermarket replacement leather. Your's look like they fit the factory seat contours really well. Did you replace the foam as well?

I like the relocated heater control, I might have to rip that off lol. About the burb door panels, if you use the window switches too, just match the colour of the factory door harness wires to the pigtail of the switch. Don't worry about repeats, they're just split further down the harness. See my build thread (link in sig) for more info if you need it. (I dk if I posted a pic of my interior or not, if I didn't I'm going to wait till it's more together.

Unbolt the old ones, bolt in the new ones
If you don't have buckets, you need another pair of risers (the two for your bench will make a pair for one bucket), then you need to drill the 4 holes for the 2 extra risers and bolt them in. The mounting pattern is identical to OBS buckets though. VERY easy mod.
(do a search, there's a long thread by BHB about it)

Yes, it will bolt up with just the outside brackets. There's also a cross piece that ties the two brackets together and prevents lateral movement of the bench.. .... damn this is an old thread lol

Did you do the work yourself or is that a kit or an upholstery shop? It's VERY classy. I see just a couple little things I'd change but only out of personal preference. It's really a well put together interior.
chevychris

thanks Blitzz
i did the embroidery myself (i own an embroidery company)
one of my customers is an upholsterer - so i used him to do my interior. i was able to help out a ton and we did the entire interior in only a few hours. it was fun being a part of it and i know i helped becuz i was able to rip apart/reassemble my interior pretty quick (waaaaaaay too much practice!! ha! ha!)
i'm curious as to what you'd change - i always love getting other people's opinions and hearing what they'd do differently (heck - a bunch of the mods i've done are becuz people have pointed stuff out that just didn't occur to me!)
Blitzz
08-06-2012, 09:34 PM
Very cool story on how that came about. I would say that the two of you working together came up with a great thing.
I'm grateful to be asked my opinion. I have a creative mind but untalented hands. Hahaha. I think I saw three things that "bugged" me. 1-The flaming bowtie was one. I thought the door panel created enough visual interest on its own with the different color tones and materials used. The CHEVROLET on the map pocket was an especially nice touch. With the bowties on the seats and on the carpet, I felt like the additional flaming bowtie put things dangerously into the "gimicky" category and it really doesn't tie into anything else. Besides that I just have a thing against flaming up interiors. LOL (no disrepect intended WHATSOEVER) 2-The digital gauges, if Dakota Digital offered a set of the new VHX Series specifcally for 88-98's I think that'd be awesome. 3- I would change the steering wheel. I think a Billet Specialties, Budnik or MoMo steering wheel finished in black with a charcoal leather wrap would be a step up.
Again, I'm not bashing it, cuz I think it's GREAT as a whole! I'm really liking it, I just would personally change those three features. Thanks for the chance to give input though. What type carpet is it? It looks nice.
chevychris
08-07-2012, 09:35 AM
ha ha!!
the flaming bowtie - it was something i came up with a while ago and 'always wanted to do'. once it was installed it was ok, but never really grabbed me. i don't really have that kind of theme anywhere else in the truck. i'm most likely going to toast that piece when i next pull apart my door.... either leave the panel blank, or maybe do something like '89CHEV' in the panel (again... i can do it and if i don't like it i can always change it)
the digital gauges - if dakota digital offered the vhx series for my truck i'd swap it in a heart beat - i LOVE those style of gauges. i was never really a huge fan of the 'moonie' gauges - they were ok, but i always liked the needle gauges that came out in the mid 90's. i was toying with putting in mid 90's chev gauges but read about how it's a ton of work and honestly - i chickened out! ha! i wanted to do something becuz my odometer had stopped spinning back in 1997 - about 3 months after i bought the truck. my engine died march of 2011 and i wanted to see how many km's i was putting on it - hence the new gauges later that year
the steering wheel is an easy (and relatively inexpensive) swap. i don't mind grant one (it's nicer than the stock wheel)... but i'm always watching for something else to catch my eye!!
thanks for the input - i do appreciate it!
the carpet in my truck is a marine carpet - that's all i know. i'll be talking to my upholstery buddy soon enough and i 'll ask him who the manufacturer is and the colour name
Blitzz
08-07-2012, 05:05 PM
Sounds like we had similar thoughts then.
I had an idea today, swapping in a 95 style cluster into the 88-94 style housing. Not sure if that's what you were talking about or a full interior swap. It just popped in my head on the drive home. Obsessive ideas. Seems like it would be at very least an idea to write Dakota Digital and request the OBS kit. Might head that up.
chevychris
08-07-2012, 05:38 PM
yup - putting in the 95 style cluster into the 88-94 housing is exactly what i was talking about... it's doable - but a TON of work!
good call on contacting dakota digital... you never know - they might do it.... well, there goes another crapload of cash!! ha! ha!
Blitzz
08-07-2012, 06:15 PM
They really should! They could offer gauges for 95's and 95 style gauges but made to fit the 88-94's. Makes sense to me. There's strength in numbers.

UPDATE: Already received a response on it. I will start a seperate thread, maybe a poll asking about it. Important thing is, "strength in numbers". The more members that contact them with interest, the more likely AND QUICKER we can see these become a reality!

hey Blitzz - i heard back from them too....
Chris,
Thank you very much for the email! We're always looking at what the next
VHX applications are going to be, and customer requests are a great way
to gauge the demand.
Honestly, right now these trucks are not on the schedule, but they
likely will be for next year. I'll add you to the request list; the more
requests the sooner higher it'll be on the list!! (tell your C/K
friends!)
Thanks,
Greg Karpe

I think i am going to use the front part of the console to mount 5-6 light switches. probably going to use these switches that i saw posted by someone on here, plus the black plastic.
