Why are you interested in the banks? There are better tuners IMO.

banks is what I have heard from people that is really good. I still remember the buildup of the engine he had for xtreme4x4 on powerblock tv it was insane.

The hypertech is a pressure tuner if im not mistaken, can be hard on the injection system. There are timing and duration tunes and then there are ones that do both. I have a smarty in an 03 dodge and really like it, might be somethin to look into.

Smarty is for dodges. If you want a good smooth tuner, go with PPE. Its hands down the best on the market for the dmax. Smooth power, and great shifts. Hypertech is supposed to be pretty bad tunes for dmax's, compared to some of the other tuners. Banks is really good too, but real pricey. Other good ones are ATS E-power, Quadzilla, diablosport. Stay away from edge. Bullydog is pretty sloppy on the dmax too.

If your strictly considering Banks, then yeah go for it. Banks has great tunes, and great customer support also. But its just really expensive. Of course you could do the ultimate and get EFI Live, and make your own tunes.

Does the dmax not like the smarty?

Ditch BOTH. PPE is the way to go.

BTW, Banks is junk, they don't produce the power other brands do whether its a cummins, duramax or powerjoke. You are just paying for that "banks" name.

IDK if smarty even makes a chip for dmax. I've never heard of one. I think they're specially for dodges, like EFI is just for dmax, and SCT is for powerjokes.

PPE is the best tuner for dmax as far as canned tunes go. ATS-Epower is basically a rebadged and cheaper PPE tuner, so its just as good. But EFI lets you make your own so it has the most poetential.

Ah I never looked into the smarty for Dmax since I have a Cummins. It would be cool if they did I had a few other chips before and this one is hands down my favorite so far.

For what its worth depending on what you plan to do. a matched setup would be best. Tuner,Exhaust,Intake. Edlebrock makes a matched kit. they matched up there stuff to get the best out of each engine. certain brand tuners they are not very compatible with some other brands hardware.

what did you hear that on the powerblock? :whatever: kits are not going to do anything better than piecing it together with different brands, cept prolly cost you more money. a 4" exhaust is a 4" exhaust, it doesnt matter what tuner you have along with it.

as other guys have said, PPE is one of the best out there. i had a hypertech and was always happy with it when i had a stock tranny. dont waste your money on banks. they are way overpriced and the tunes are way too conservative. really if youre not planning on having your tranny built anytime soon then your not going to be able to run anymore power then the hypertechs already giving you. switching to a different tune could improve drivability though but it could get costly going from one tuner to another if it wont really gain you anything.

how much does the PPE run for a dmax?
