well, my toolbox sits out in the garage, not heated, and surface rust is a big problem ive been having. what have you guys used to keep your tools from rusting if they sit out in the cold all the time?

you could use silica gel packets or rice to soak up moisture.

oil...light coat.

Spray is fine.

Desiccant is not going to be effective in a standard roll around tool box.

Get an old ford.
The constant use will keep them from rusting.:aniteef:

Seriously I had some trouble with rust when my drier didn't have an outside vent.

if you dont mind things a little oily just spray a mist of WD-40 over them. I do it at work all the time and works great.

cheap wal-mart brand works. I just do a couple quick swipes accross the drawers to get a thin coat on everything and their good to go.

Best way to keep your tools: Don't have kids.

First it's diapers - no problem.

Then it's leggos and GI Joes - no problem.

Then one day you hear the compressor start up because the kid is planning on using your impact wrench to tighten his bicycle seat, and it's all over for the tools.

my dad is STILL stuck in this mentality... even though i've got 3 times the tools he has, and i know where all of mine are. :whatever:

 My old man is like that, too. He's always like, "Do you have my needlenose pliers?" Then I have to remind him that I haven't lived at home for about 3 years and I own more tools than he ever has.

In his defense, I probably did lose and/or f*ck up a fair amount of his stuff when I was a kid.

same thing here. You know it's a cold day in hell when the dad comes asking the kid for tools. It's kinda funny tho, my impact is quite a bit stronger than his, and he borrows it constantly. Says it's just me repaying him for uncollected rent!!
