Just wondering if I should buy a cheap 2 or so Farad Capacitor to take a little strain off my alternator or would it be almost useless and a waste of money. Is the Kicker ZX550.3 even powerful enough to hurt my alt. Thanks guys,

Zach

550.3 is nothing for your alternator, you aren't really running anything else anyway. its useless just like TQ management

Caps are a waste... Upgrade the wiring, battery, and alternator if you're having issues.

 45 amps isnt exactly a cake walk for your alternator.

I'll have to test mine, my truck barley started this morning and it has never done that before. So I'm thinking about picking up a 150amp or so alt.

-Battery is brand new.

Just having a brand new battery does not mean it's best suited for an audio application. Check out something like Kinetik brand batteries, which are designed for high-draw electronics.

Kinetik HC1800 FTW.

Ok I'm new to audio so I'm learning. My amp was completely junk and constantly drew power 24/7 and the sub channel didn't work. So I'm sending it back and hopefully getting a new one and go from there.

Sounds more like your source wire (the one that comes from the HU to the amp) has a constant power, instead of only being on when the HU is on. Which would cause the constant draw.

Yes but the power light on the amp isn't on. When I shut the deck off it properly shuts the power to the amp down and the amp power light goes off.

Could be a bad relay on the amp.

Yea I tried replacing the fuses, as for the internal relays I'm not sure. The sub channel didn't work, and the speaker channel was sporadic on and off. So I Just send it back for a refund I don't feel like dealing with it and I'll just buy a new one like I should have in the first place haha.

was it a used one?

Yes, first mistake I made. I'm going to get a new one this time around. I learned my lesson.

There is nothing wrong with buying used as long as you are buying from a trusted seller who knows what they are doing. Buying used is a great way to upgrade. Why spend $800 for a new IA 20.1 when you can spend $450 for a very slightly used IA 20.1?

Yea I bought from a buyer with 500 100% positive feedbacks and they suck. Stay away from Big City Wholesale on ebay, they ended the auction for me early so I can't leave bad feedback either. They are giving me the runaround with this amp, they said they received it today but the "SEAL" was broken and the amp was damaged (THE REASON WHY I RETURNED IT) so they sent it back to me. Great I'm so happy now.

Screw that, leave negative feedback anyway. Just explain why.

Trust me I would leave 100000000 negative feedbacks if I could, they ended it because I paid them straitup, therefore bypassing ebay so there is no way to leave feedback, and no trace I bought it through ebay, just the paypal transaction. I hate ebay sometimes, 99% of the time its great. He said he was going to refund me when he gets home tonight at 10pm pacific.

If he doesn't then put in a dispute through paypal.

Oh I will don't worry. I'm hoping he comes through with it I'm sick of dealing with all this, all I want is speakers in my truck.

Really? Well I will let you know if I get it back in the mail or not. I will definitely have to take you up on your offer if they actually sent it back to me.

If you do decide to get a cap - the rule I've always gone by was 1 Farad per 1000 watts.
