I currently have a 10 gauge wire running from my battery to the yellow wire on my alpine harness for power. When I bought it I was told that due to the type amp in the alpine, that I should run a 10 gauge power wire. My question is now that I am installing a separate amp for the speakers, can I disconnect the 10 gauge wire and just solder the two yellow wires back together for basic power? Thanks for the help.

Why go through the trouble to disconnect it? If you plan on using the 10 gauge to run to the amp.... don't. 10 guage is not really big enough to run any amp.

I think hes talking about the amp onboard the H/U. If so yes that will be fine.

I dont think it would matter at all. But why not just leave it?

I was going to clean up how the wire is run when I start the install for the amp. Now that I think about it, along with your responses, I will rerun the 10 gauge and hook it back up just in case I sell truck sometime and leave the hu in. Thanks for the help and advise. I'm sure that I will have more questions.
