Amp placement

So I finally got my TS-C720PRS in the mail today. I had a line on an amp but the deal fell through.

I'm still looking at getting a ZX250.2 but before I go and find a place to shop, are there any last-minute suggestions? I am aiming for around 85-100w per side.

To get to my placement question, where is the usual spot for single cab trucks? I was thinking under my center seat/console but I didn't know if it'd get too hot there. Is heat an issue with these small amps?

That amp with be fine. Then mount the amp on the back wall of the cab.

With what? I'd rather not put holes in my truck, plus I have my books/backpack/jacket/etc back there all the time, I'm sure if I didn't build a box over it that the wires would get smashed up within days.

you could glue a piece of mdf or plywood to the back of the cab and then screw the amp to that.

You could mount it under the seat if you want to. But the usually spot is on the back wall. Most people glue mdf onto the back wall then screw the amp on to that.

I would have to build a box around it though, cause I know it'd get trashed any other way.

Is there enough room underneath the center seat/console? I haven't measured anything yet, just intrigued and bored at work.

I'm now looking at getting the Pioneer GM-5400T (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Amplifiers/GMSeries/GM-5400T?tab=B) over the ZX250.2 simply because I've always been a fan of pioneer and the rest of the system is pioneer. Any comments on this amp?

Also.....what wiring kit would I use for this? Should I just make my own kit or buy an actual kit?

if you lift the console your always gonna be annoyed with how much higher it is. just pull up your carpet on your back wall, liquid nails the mdf to it and then screw the amp to that. just remember its there and throw your stuff in the other side. if you build a box around the amp its going to trap heat and fry the amp.

I'm actually kind of annoyed at how low it is right now...I'm 6'5" so if I raised it a little I think I'd actually like it more.

I'll probably put it on the driver's side back wall, cause usually I throw stuff in the passenger side. Maybe I can put an upside down "L" around it to block it off from the avalanche of sh*t in the back of my truck.

What about the amp kit? I went to Best Buy (I know, rape city for the wallet) and they had a rockford fosgate kit that used 8ga wire. Would something like that work? I'm sure wire is wire, but I don't know what I'm doing :aniteef:

Well if IIRC the center seat bolts into the same holes as the regular seats. And the regular driver and passenger seat sit on top of the mounts for the middle seat. SO i think you would have to lift ALL the seats and not just the middle. Unless you put the mounting brackets on top of the driver and passenger brackets and put some sort of spacer on there. idk if that would work, but it would look kinda silly being taller than the other seats.

for a 250.2 8ga would probably be okay but if you ever want to throw in a bigger amp your going to want to go 4ga for sure not only will it sound better theres a better chance of you not causing an electrical fire =p but if your gonna stick with the 250.2 8ga will be fine

And as for the wire. check out knukonceptz.com ive always been very happy with there wire and prices. Or even look at welding wire, its even cheaper but not as cosmetically appealing.

I would recommend spending the extra 12 dollars on 4 gauge in case you want to upgrade down the road. if you spend 15 on that and decide to upgrade your going to spend 30 on a 4 gauge kit, then you will be out 42 bucks

No upgrades in sight for me.....I'm kind of using this upgrade as the end-all for that itch (for this particular truck anyway). I almost see an 8ga kit as a sort of a "leash" so I don't try anything in the future :D
