Ive been thinking of buying a 1008/1009 truck or blazer, there cheap and have alot of goodies on them for off road. most of my friends say that the 6.2 diesel is a turd. Is there anythign out there to help performance on the 6.2? what kind of mpg does a stock 6.2 get?

20+mpg is not uncommon. and your buddies telling you they're turds... what aspect of the engine is a turd? if its that its low on power, they're spot on. if its because they're unreliable for whatever reason, you need to find some new friends.

IIRC 6.5 TD parts will bolt right on. Banks makes a kit for them as well.

6.2 diesel buildup in Diesel Power Magazine. That should tell you what you could get out of those trucks. I've been wanting one too.

if you dont wanna go with a turbo open up the exhaust with dual 3" pipes, a set of exhaust manifolds from a humvee (more free flowing, only set of headers available), and open up the intake as well as turn up the injection pump.

if you want a turbo, get the exhaust manifolds, crossover pipe/down pipe, turbo, and intake manifold from a 6.5L and bolt it on.

I thought turning up the pump on a 6.2 did'nt do anything besides make it go bad quicker and make it smoke?

depends on how much you turn it up. turn it to the point where at wide open throttle you get a quick birp of black smoke then thats the max you can effectively get outta it. (adjusting the pump, not the max the motor can make).

there's another intake available for the 6.2 as well, i wanna say a J code 6.2 has the intake. PM 6Pack on that one, he had one on his 6.2

The turd comment was the low on power part, I never thought they'd do 20ish mpg, like i said not knowing alot about them i never knew that 6.5 parts would bolt on. I may look into alot more seriously now. thanks

yeah, the hp is lacking but torque is ok for the time. it's not a turd. the stock power curve and torque curve work well for some types of rock crawling that require finesse. you can climb the obstacles with less skinny pedal. i prefer gas for mud and sand though.

A CUCV should already have the non-EGR manifold.

As far as turning the pump up, all it does is add fuel. Slap a turbo on and turn the pump up, you can basically get a 6.5TD with .3L missing.

So on a N/A 6.2 you will not gain any power or any thing good by turning up the pump.

just smoke/fuel and less mileage? I got a buddy with one at school in a 85 K20. I think its the hd vin code engine.

There is a little to be gained on an NA, but you need fuel AND air for power. Fuel milegae will actually be more dependant on timing and how it's driven than fuel rate. Now if it's driven crazy, then the pump is turned up, then it's still driven crazy, it will loose mileage.
