View Full Version : Any 6.2 liters out there? Gas Engine.
My brother just bought a 2009 silverado with the 6.2 liter/six speed. Georgous truck! Now I am going to step out in to dangerous territory and tell you I now drive a Jap truck. (2007 Tundra) I am a chevy man at heart. But in 2007 the only truck available performance wise was the Denali. Which I did like but could not afford. That and I do like the console shift. I tried doing some searches, but could not find any track times on the 6.2's. I know they are supposed to be faster the the 5.7 Jap Truck. All I have is a drop in K&n filter. That is it. At the local 1/8th mile track I ran 5 runs back to back with all of them in the 9.1's. My truck is a Double Cab. (same as the chevy crew cab)
Now I will tell you that is the best I have done. Now that the tires are worn, the best I have done is 9.3's. What are the new chevys running bone stock? Or with a drop in filter? THey have more cubes, but I think my truck will give them a good run.
I raced a 2007 Denali with Predator tune, CAI, TB spacer, and exhaust. Best two out of three at the track and he blew his tires away on the first race. Then I blew mine away on the second. Third, I babied mine a little to long and he got me a 1/2 a truck out of the hole. My bumPer at the rear of his front door and it stayed that way till the end. Either way he won and I respect that.

I did not sleep for 3 days after I bought it. But I do like it. I will go back to chevy. But they will have to have a console shift and be able to out do my Tundra. This is my first Jap vehicle ever. So far it has not been to the shop in 2 years. But just to make you feel better I got outran by a 07 Denali 6.2 liter. His predator programmer,TB spacer, Exhaust, CAI, 1/4 tank of gas to my stock Tundra with 7/8 tank of gas. Best 2 out of 3, he blew his tires away, then I did the same. On the third I babied it a tad to long and he got a half a truck off the line and I stayed with my front bumper at the rear of his front door the rest of the way. But he did win. They are ugly, but they run.:aniteef:

I know there's a guy on PT.net that has a 2wd denali, and he said it weighs in at 6500 pounds. With just a few bolt on's he's running 13.7's. Just imagine that in a light 2wd RCSB. Oh, and he breaks the tires loose up to the 3rd gear shift.
Stout motor.

There are a few guys on here with 2009's, but not too many yet. I don't see many 2009's on the road period that aren't fleet vihicles, much less 6.2's. I'd love to drive one with a 6.2.

DMAX with injectors, intake, exhaust and solid tune. That oughta rip a Tundra a new one. Sorry, but I just don't like Tundras :dunno: . Sh!tty frame, sh!tty build quality with a fast motor. woohoo...I would take any Ford or Dodge over any foriegn truck.

They weigh roughly the same as the Tundra.........5300 lbs or so give or take 50 lbs, not 6500 lbs. (crew cab to Double cab) Now you see that is the great thing about Chevy, many upgrades available for a good price. It cost about a grand to get a piggy back programmer and a tune. But some reports say there is a 40hp/40 tq gain with this. But I could not say for sure. What I will say is I will not pay a grand for a program/chip. THose Japs rake you over the coals on every thing. Reminds me of buying motorcycle parts. Very stout motor that 6.2 with a lot of power to be had.

Now come on, I feel you on the Jap thing. But you can't compare turbos to N/A trucks. That would be like me saying take your turbo off and see what it will do.:aniteef: I got no problem with people not liking them. They are ugly. But in 07 chevy either had the damn expensive Denali or the vortec Max which I was not impressed with. Plus I wanted a console shift. So I thought what the hell, dive in and do something different. I would not push a jap truck on anyone. What really got me was a bone stock truck that ran the best time so far of 9.143 in the 1/8th. I have beaten Mustang GT's at the track. Makes for interesting conversations. I got into this truck for 27,843.00. I am pretty sure you can't do that with the 6.2 and I know you can't do it in the Duramax.

My jap truck was built in San Antonio that supported many jobs of fellow Texans. Do you have any clue how many parts on a chevy is made over seas supporting their workers?:aniteef: Not to mention my last chevy crew cab was built in Canada. I'm just sayin.............

Man, I really hate ignorance like this. You clearly have no idea how the world's economy works. It's going global, outsourcing and cheap labor are becoming a very nice option for the CEO's of these multi-billion dollar companies. Your truck was made in Canada or Mexico. The money paid to the workers that built it stayed in Canada, the production profit of your truck going off of the assembly line stayed within that manufacturing plant. And in the end, GM skimmed a little profit off the top to stuff its own pockets. You seriously need to wake up and smell the roses, America isn't all about isolationism and prejudices to people you don't understand.
I think the Tundra's are just meh. There's nothing besides a low torque, top end happy V8 with serious camshaft problems that makes them special to American truck buyers. Their interior is a mean joke being played on us by the Japanese designers, we said it was too small, so they assumed that everyone was a ham fisted 400lb-er with work gloves on smashing the climate control knobs. The exterior designers seemed to have just scaled up a Camry and called it a day. They are pretty quick for a stock truck though, and they do ride nice, and have a decently stout rear axle. I raced one recently and I beat him hard out of the hole while spinning and after I short-shifted into second really early, he pulled half a length back on me and we had to let off. I've heard they run low 15's stock. The 6.2 with a mail order tune, exhaust, and an intake should be deep into the 14's. With a cam, stall, and headers added to the mix, expect 12's if it can hook up. You may both have similarly quick trucks stock to stock, but once y'all start modding, you'll run out of options before he runs out of money. The performance aftermarket is always going to be bigger for GM.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Not sure about the sturdy rear end......only because of that POS auto LSD. My truck with just a drop in K&N filter........not a CAI will run mid to low 14's as is. Oh, camshaft problems were only in the first 5000 out of production in 2006. Nothing since. Outside of this, I will agree with you on the rest. But there not a 5.3 out there with just a CAI, TB spcer,Tune, and exhaust that can hang with my truck.
Realistically I just would like to know if the new 6.2 liters have put down a time close to mine. If I knew how I would post a time slip. This is a Double cab, 4 door full size same weight as the Chevy Crew Cab. I do have a drop in K&N filter and that is it. But here it is.......

330'....5.946

310#'s of my big ass in it,it weighed 5880.I'm hoping to make it out to midnight madness at gateway on july 3rd,I'll post up my times if i get there. They run from 8pm-2am but stop taking racers at midnight, the earliest I can get off work is 10:30 and the tracks 45min to an hour away so we'll see what happens.

New or used, doesn't matter, used all you are doing is reimbursing someone for buying it now.
This country is in economic mess right now and people wanna buy products that sent our profits to foreign countries. I don't give a rats a$$ where it was assembled, the PROFITS go overseas, they do NOT stay here. It is simple economics. And people wanna justify buying this crap by claiming American stuff sucks so that just make it ok. It is NOT OK. The money that leaves becomes more and more dilluted and weak.
Well, now we wonder why there is double digit unemployment and record numbers of people on welfare and bankrupt.
Sorry I do NOT agree with people buying big ticket or small tickets items at ALL when there is a choice.
You have the choice it is your money, fine, but when you don't have a job because more and more companies can't stay afloat, you know that you have had a part in it. I hope it never comes to that, we all need to do what we can to make America STRONG, not weak and broke.
Americans need to be serious about buying American, everything, send the message to the retailers that we don't want foreign products.

I test drove the Tundra and was impressed with its speed... but the rest of the truck was 'OK'. Then I test drove a 2008 Sierra Denali... speed wise it was comparable to the Tundra, which had the 4.30 gears i believe? (whatever their 'best' package was). Difference for me was the ride, shift characteristics and the fact that the Tundra felt too much like a plastic toy compared to the nice trim of the Sierra... my Denali was $5k more out the door than the Tundra was, and i decided it was worth it.
But back to the topic of "who would win"... from what you described, I believe i would win due to my AWD. But, drivetrain aside i think GM's 6.2L 6spd combo is equivalent to the Tundras, close enough to come down to reaction time & driver skill IMO. Definitely not something worth arguing over OR betting on, the race can go either way.
I'm as unbaised as it gets when it comes to purchasing vehicles, i was looking at Ford, Chevy, GMC, Dodge and Toyota for my new truck... it came down to the Toyota and the GMC for me

Sorry Charlie, my money goes where the quality is and sadly, that's not always America. Maybe if America wasn't slitting its own throat by outsourcing all its labor we wouldn't be in this mess. There's no pride left in made in America. That and the union needs to go. It'll never happen, all that plus the hippy political correctness of the gov't will see to it that the obvious solutions never see the light of day. We're ****ed. Might as well learn to speak Chinese.

I agree on the unions, they need to go. They are a LOT of the problem.
But I don't care, sending $$ overseas like this is wrong. And I don't think the quality of the Japanese stuff is any better at all than the US stuff. The Japanese know how to bury issues, the Americans know how to brag about it.
Consumer Reports is the #1 problem with "quality" of the American cars. Seems the pres of CR is a big stock holder of the Japanese car manf. He has vested interest in making them seem good.
Believe what you may, but the cars I have had over the years, almost all GM and one Ford all have seen >250K miles and often very little needed to keep them running in good shape. I have seen very few similar cars from Japan ever make it close to that far with so little needed to keep them driving so well.

This is my first post and I was wondering how much people were paying for the new 6.2L 4wd LTZ crews out the door. I had an 08 5.3 4wd Crew and put 20K on the clock before totalling it and am now in the market again. I was also wondering what kind of mileage I could expect out of the 6.2 and 6spd tranny?

Its been a while since I have been on here. LOL! at some of the responses. I was just curious if they were running good time. Not telling any one to by the jap truck. I only bought it because it had a console shift and it ran good. I have not seen any numbers as of yet?
