View Full Version : Have any of you just removed the "choke collar" running stock air cleaner?

Got an 87 chevy 305 tbi. I've heard how restrictive the spacer on top of the tbi is. I know Hypertech sells an expensive piece to replace it.

Today, I removed the collar, set my stock air cleaner assembly on top of the tbi, my K&N filter with flipped lid. The threads stick out farther now since the collar is removed, so I just used washers to take up the space.

It seems to seal very well and I put a push in style breather on the valve cover.

Not sure if I notice any improvements, but it does sound better. Is this ok to do?

yes that will work fine as long as it seals good.

You could get an open element intake, it works and looks better than what you're running now, and i got mine for 20 bucks at vatozone.
