so I have a few lights burnt out in my 98 gmc k1500 and have to take the dash off any way to change a gauge cluster so I might as well while it easy to get at.
im assuming I would have to take the radio apart (unless u can get at them from the side or something)
is it easy enough so that I wont brake it or should I just leave it.

I'm wondering the same for my '05. The defrost light in the cluster doesn't light up and the volume control on the steering wheel doesn't light up. At night it just looks like a black void.

After use of the clever little search button. I found how to change the steering wheel control.

You can change it in the stereo but i've heard it's not easy. You could always just put in a new head unit if it's that big of a deal, i've got a OE one I'd part with if your'e interested.

It's really not that hard if you know how to solder correctly, and if the radio is similar to the 99-02s. There is a sticky on here you can look at.
