stereo sound quits when lights turn on

i just installed a cdplayer in my beater car (89 buick skylark). i thought it was working fine until i was driving tonight and i turned the headlights on and the sound quit, tried a couple times same problem, any idea on what this might be?

did you use a wiring harness to plug into the factory harness? sounds like you're trying to ground the radio through the dimmer or illumination circuit. it shows ground until you turn on the parking lights, then shows +12v (dimmer changes voltage with the dash dimmer knob. the following is the factory wiring colors:

Battery ORANGE (+) RADIO HARNESS
Accessory YELLOW (+) RADIO HARNESS
Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS
Illumination GRAY (+) RADIO HARNESS
Dimmer BROWN (+) RADIO HARNESS

i used a harness, it appeared 2 b wired correct

i tried 2 ground the cdplayer directly to the chasis and it didnt change

I fixed the problem, the dimmer wire and the left front speaker wire are both gray and they were switched around, changed them and it works fine now, thanks everyone for the help, my beater car has tunes in it again, im happy
