Well i will be going to the track for the first time ever Friday, and was looking for any useful tips anyone may have. I would also like to know what to expect out of my truck?

2000 Chevy 4x4
4.8l
Cats disappeared a while back
Has an AEM drop in filter
Cleaned the MAf recently
Cleaned the Throttle body today
Plan on bypassing the throttle body heater before track day
Will have clean synthetic oil in the truck when I go

I also hope to only have 1/4-1/2 tank of fuel when i go for the extra weight savings, i really hate running it below half but i gather weight is the enemy.

Am I missing any obvious maintenance items, or things i should do to save weight? I was hoiping to be in the 16's will i do it?

Thanks

Matthew

get a programmer, will be your biggest gain, stock hemi quadcabs run about 17.0 flat. so does the '08 3/4 ton chevy with the 6.0 liter.

DON'T get a "programmer." Waste of money.

Is your truck a regular cab? Short bed?

If it is, then with the spare tire out, in good running condition, and traction withstanding, you should be in the mid-high 16's since you're 4x4.

Best thing to do for your first run is to get staged, don't worry about your r.t., and just leave off of idle to see whether or not it will spin. Then for the next one, try to foot stall it up to about 1200rpm. Any higher and you'll just end up bogging it off of the line. Also make sure not to let your truck sit idling, you'll heatsoak the MAF and a cooler engine will always run more efficiently than a hotter one.

After that, get a custom tune, an Airaid intake tube or a used CAI, some long tube headers, and a single 2.5" exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler. That should drop you into the 15's.
