my sony is startin to give in after 4 years of abuse. im lookin around for another one. whats good out there? id like a CD player that can also play my IPOD, look pretty good, im not worried about how many watts it puts out because im pretty sure everything will be on a amp. id like a flip screen but not about to pay over 500 for a head unit. so whats out there? pics would be nice

I love alpine's Ipod controls over all the other brands personaly.

If I was to buy a non flip out head unit I would buy an Alpine CDA-9886

Jensens are not the best, but a good product for the price.

Try to find a used pioneer (they come with NAV most of the units at least) or a good kenwood.

I got my kenwood double din brand new of craigs for 400.

The kenwood double dins are really nice and if you look around you should be able to get one for under 500.

whats a double din?

A double din is bigger than a regular cd player and will fill the whole area where your stock radio comes out, it has a screen that is stationary rather than one that flips out. It looks like the radio/navigation units that come in the newer higher end vehicles.

heres an example

um, id rather have one that flips out, for the slightly larger screen, and i dont like the ideal of hacking up my dash. so who makes a good, reliable flipscreen?

I dont think you would have to hack up your dash but im not very familiar with your year truck, but anything from alpine, pioneer, or kenwood is good. I just wouldnt get one of the cheap Dual brand flipouts because one of my friends had one of those and it messed up pretty quick

I am not a fan of flip out screens because they look.....unfinished. Like it is some robotic arm sticking out of the dash that doesn't belong there.

Of course i am really not much of a fan of double dins anyway. I prefer my old fashioned single din head unit. I don't need/want all the flash. As far as gps/nav, i use a stand alone tomtom.

If you want a DD screen you have to customize the dash. The OBS use 1.5 DIN and the NBS have DD. So a flipout is your only choice if you want a screen. As for a good one under $500,

You don't have to use the gps everyday.

If you talking about the Pioneer I posted, it is a very reliable deck. I have not personally used but a lot of guys on my stereo forum love em.
