buy some of the engine brite foam engine degreaser, stuff works great, used it many times after mudding and on the nova all the time. spray it on, let it sit 5-10 min and wash or pressure wash off and the motor looks like new. just make sure not to spray it on wires, supposedly it could eat through the coating.

I use Simple Green full strength and saturate it. Use different brushes to get into different areas. Cover what you think should be covered. I used to be worried about electrical problems but after doing it a couple times the worry goes away. I usually wait for it to completely dry before starting.
Then dress it with the dressing of your choice.

Yup. And if youre the cheap type, a $2 can of tire foam works well too.

In my experience you do not need a pressure washer.
I use engine degreaser on the 'greasy' parts, rinse well with a garden hose. For the stubborn areas, use a brush and rag.
The rest of it I use Simple Green and a brush/rag followed by a good rinsing with the hose :D

I used to use the pressure washer about yearly on each vehicle until water got in some place and let the smoke out of my ECM and a few emissions components.
I want to clean the '03 sooo bad but after that experience, I'm gun shy about spraying water under the hood. Especially since the Computer is under the hood on the NBS.
Never had any issues on the old OBS.

I always had the same fear. When I did my truck recently for the first time, I just used a garden hose without a pressure attachment. I also sprayed all the electrical connections with WD40 prior to even spraying Simple Green.

I've always just used Engine Brite and Simple Green concentrate, then rinsed gently with the hose. I've never used dressing or shine of any kind, wouldn't that attract dirt? What does it come out looking like?

Yes it does collect dirt. Unless you use CD2 ( thats what I've read ) and unless you buff off the excess after it has had time to " set-in," it looks like crap.

The CD2 dries and doesn't leave any residue. So far, it seems better than wiping down with WD40, which is what I used to do and the engine would get really dusty.

i like using scrubbing bubbles to degrease my engine compartment. then rinse and follow up with meguires aerosole tire shine. i find strong degreasers like purple power leave behind a film that hazes over.

When I wash my engine bay, I let the truck run for a little bit (if it's cold), usually about 10 minutes so I can get everything together to wash the rest of the truck.
Spray the motor down with the hose
Simple green it and let it sit for about 10 min.
Spray it down
Then either: a) Let it dry and spray all the plastics and rubbers with Tire Foam or b) Spray it with this interior detailing spray when it's still wet and it makes it look 10 times better and lasts 10 times longer then tire shine, but I don't always have it readily available to use.
