my buddy has a 96 with the 5.7 vortec, and true dual with thrush turbo tubes. it sounds hella bad ass. when hes 5 cars or more in front of me on the freeway, with my stereo up, i can still here him when he floors it. in my opinion, at normal driving, its completly acceptable inside as far as cabin noise.

my problem: today i drove around pricing to have my stock exhaust upgraded on my 01 Z71 with 5.3. some crack smoker at 4WP told me that i only have 1 cat, and that i have to have a single in double out muffler, and i can dual out the rear as i like. ok fine, i take a few quotes on that, i get from $480 down to $280 with a flow 40 series. the last quote i went today was a meineke and good god he wanted $726, but he looks at my truck and points out that i DO infact have 2 cats. so the 726 quote was for true dual all the way down, all the piping, 2 single/single flow 40's and 4" chrome tips.

so, i take this info back to the place where i got the 280 quote (and that was $200, with my $80 muffler that i would bring in), and had him requote it for true dual. $310 parts and labor, plus i supply the flowmaster 40s. he is telling me the same thing the meineke guy is telling me... "its going to be really really really loud. insane loud. some guy did what your asking about and had to bring it back a week later, asking ' can you tone this down a little?' "

my problem is... i definatly WANT loud. i want to set off car alarms, and i want to irritate everyone in my parking garage at the office:rocking: . im alreary quite def in the right ear (2 years of live rock and roll in houston), so even as it is right now, i have to have the radio down to hear what my passenger is saying (this is fine, i dont mind instructing people they have to YELL). so, who here has a extended cab 5.3 with true dual exhaust and a pair of flow 40's?

yes, its supa insane loud?
yes, its loud, but the guy whos telling me its too loud hasnt really and truly experienced loud, and thus has not point of reference?

see, my problem is ive only really spent lots of time listening to turbo tubes, and no one in dallas even knows what the heck those are, so everywhere i go its tough to get a comparison of this loud and that loud. i know a lot of guys at the austin FSC meet has flow 40s, but before i go and drop lots of green, id like a few reassuring opinions. :) anyinfo you guys can provide would be great. THANKS!!

I think you would be happy with that setup. My cousin put the same exact exhaust on his 99 with a 6.0 and it sounds bad as hell. That is also almost the same exhaust I have but I have turndowns and I love the sound of it also.

If you want a REALLY loud Flowmaster then get dual Single chambers.

Judging by the definition of loud that you conveyed in your post, I don't think true duals will be too loud for you. Go For It! That is a good price too, everyone wants a ton of money around here!
