ok, so im a little bit of a redneck and i watch nascar. those machines are incredible. but how in the hell do those cars make over 800hp on old technology (carberators) AND no forced induction (they use cowl induction)?

Very carefully.

And keep in mind, those motors are 358CI and only have 12:1 compression.

Here is a good article. Those motors are pretty different from your typical SBC. Even the distributor is front mounted Ford style.

And you're right. They are some fine pieces of equipment. 850HP, turning 6500-9500 RPM for 4 hours and still holding together. Pretty impressive, IMO.

The SB2 engine was more similar to a Gen 1 smallblock, the newer RO3 is a clean sheet. Both are very impressive.

As already mentioned $$$ and R&D, from what I've read the R07 took around 9 years to develop
