1999 silverado 1500 4x4 with 5.3l

How much weight can I safely haul in the bed of my truck?

I need to haul a ton of lime to be dumped on to a food plot I'm making for the deer this weekend and need to decide if I need to borrow another truck or not to haul it.

Are you talking ton as in 2000lbs or as in a large amount?

Depending on how far you are driving and the type of terrain you can do it. I have hauled 2500lbs+ in my 96 1500hd, but that was for a little over a mile and on flat ground.if its going to be spread evenly over the whole bed that makes a big difference too.

I literally mean a ton...2000 lbs. I'd have to haul it about 15 miles with a few steep grades in between. I think I'll just see if I can borrow my dad's cummins and not worry about it.
Thanks

I've estimated that I hauled about 1000lbs of my brother-in-law's junk from Michigan to Florida, and it was a breeze. My guess is the max payload is between 1500 and 2000, so you'd probably be OK. 15 miles isn't all that far, you could probably safely haul it all at once, but you could also make two easy trips. I would personally lean toward two easy trips, depending on how big those hills are, or rent/use a trailer.

I've had my truck overflowing with mulch before. I don't recall how much it was - maybe 4 cubic yards - and certainly don't know the weight, but that was just about my limit for comfort. The truck handled it fine, but much more than that and I'd be worried about wear and tear.

Well 2000lbs loaded evenly in the bed should be okay, as long as you have good tires.
