I'm a long-time member finally got a photobucket account so I can post pics. So I picked a few of my favorites from past wheelin trips. Trails are all around the Keewenaw area. There's more pics on the second page of this thread.

Poor chevy I found on the trail, the guys jumped it and broke the frame, and the bed got trashed when they tried to tow it out.

No body lift, just a crank and 2" block. Actually no crank or block in most of the pics. (they're older)

33x12.50 pep boys M/T's and locker in the rear really helps.

Im going to school in houghton this fall, so i will be around that area and i wanted to know if i need an ORV sticker for my truck to go on the trails?
Thanks

no ORV sticker is required for most of the trails I go on, don't quote me on that tho. I know you need one if you're cruising the snowmobile trails on an atv tho.

Those are awesome shots. The one with the 40* angle with one side in the mud trench is amazing.

I love the hood. Is it a functional ram air/induction hood. What brand is it & how much?

loudblack97z71
07-01-2009, 03:10 PM
the hood is a goodmark i payed 400. its functional as a cowl induction, not as a ram air, thats just a plastic peice.

I've thought about making it ram-air functional but i recently installed a 79 trans am fender vent as a cold air intake so the hood will remain the same.

The wheels are Mickey Thompson classic II's painted black. The UP winters are hell on polished aluminum so I decided to paint them.

Thanks, Now i will probably hold off on the ORV sticker. Also before you painted your rims how bad did the winters eat them up? I ask because i just got new polished aluminum rims and if the winters will destroy them, i might get a winter set with steel rims.
Thanks

Look familiar?? Don't know if it's the exact same spot but it looks like the same trail.

I don't know about now but back in '06 you needed an ORV sticker to be on the snowmobile trails with your truck. The back roads by the power lines and by wheelkate you don't need one but for established trails it was required at that time.

The aluminum got all pitted and oxidized, so I got tired of polishing them. It only took one winter for my chrome exhaust tips to rust thru also.

That looks really similar but I don't think its the same trail, the vegetation looks different. That trail is off the beacon hill toivola road.
edit: upon a closer look it probably is the same trail but a different season. I noticed the matching birch tree on the right hand side.

yeah that was taken 2 or three falls ago and I think that was the same road we came off onto. I wasn't in the lead with the map so I wasn't paying much attention to where we were. I know at one point we visited Agate Bay during that same day and we got on the trail in Strange Range and went up through Freda.

Thats my hood in the 1st pic, water was over the top of the tires. You can see how deep it is on the jeep, but that wasnt the deepest part.

I used to ride along with my friends a lot when we were going to school at Tech as I didn't have a beater or the funds to build a beater. I keep telling myself that some day I'm going to retire in Houghton and trail ride all day long.

thats actually opposite from what ive usually seen at least around here. guys with stock trucks wheel 10x harder and 10x more often than guys in modded trucks

Round my home, its mostly the jeep tools saying "you need at least 35's to get down this trail". I laughed and drove a bone stock 2008 ford F250 (on 245/75/16) through for work.

This site is actually pretty good for respecting driver ability more than mods like lifts and tires.

Money buys lifts and tires and winches. Experience builds a driver.

Back to the original post. Damn how hard do you have to hit to break a frame like the one you found out there. Man oh man that must have been one hell of a hit.

I think the frame was severely rusted before they decided to..uhh jump the truck :badidea: silly yoopers.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Im down south here around Grand Rapids. Some kids at my school just got exhaust after I did. Im running dumped but they went full length and I told them to get SS tips but they insisted that chrome doesnt rust. One already has a rust spot and we'll see come spring what the other kids looks like.

Great pics. I love (and miss) the UP! A lot of the areas we used to play at close to town are now gone, Superfund sites. I hope to get up there some day, at least for a lengthy visit. I won't make it to the UP this time, but I am leaving to road trip the Jeep to Michigan and pick up a C2500 n about 2 hours.

To the ORV sticker thing. Snowmobile trails are ORV routes, you need an ORV sticker OR a license plate. The only places in Michigan you need an ORV sticker on your truck is the Mounds and Silver Lake (ORV parks or "scramble areas"). Otherwise the license plate covers you. If you are on an ORV trail (sticker required), then you are in trouble no matter what, because you are not allowed on those with any vehicle over 50" wide. We looked all this up this summer when I came up to play for a few weeks. The law has been the same for a good number of years now.

loudblack97z71

Just remember, some snowmobile trails are closed to all wheeled vehicles in the summer time. I can't recall if there are any in that area like that, but I know in the northern lower there are quite a few. Usually because they run through wet areas.

49930 (Hanc-o-c-k, it won't let me spell the town!)
49931 (Houghton)

Almost 6 years since I lived in those towns, and I still remember for some reason. I can't hardly remember my zip here!
