I just installed a new cat back system. went together great fit great. Just on issue, it may just be me though. Does this look right to you guys? Why have an 8 inch tip and weld it like this?

I think the pipe is supposed to be cut so it ends just as it enters the tip. That looks like a job by a hack. Who did it? Unless that is some other kind of tip than what I am thinking of (the kind almost everyone runs, echo tips).

Hack job!!
My magnaflow catback kit from the factory has the tip, but to but welded to the pipe.

This is straight from magnaflow and the tip is welded on kit # 15618. I was looking at there website in customers rides and found a chevy or gmc that the tip looks the same way. I always thought that the rolled tip would cause resonance so i was a little louder. The kit is great, just thought it would be louder than it is. I dosent sound much louder than my stock setup, even with the cai i added at the same time.

Get a die grinder and grind the weld off the end. Then cut the pipe back about 7" and weld it back on.

Sucks to have to do that after paying for something, but I swear the whole world has gone to hell and you can't even pay for what you want anymore...

This is a first for me.Magnaflow is highly respected for their craftsmanship.I guess someone fell asleep at the factory. The kit I got had the 3" pipe welded to chrome tip. :mexsmoke:

The tips should be welded onto the end of the regular piping, not over it. It's not gonna sound much different like that, the point of the tip besides to look nice is to create a deeper tone by echoing the sound and it can't do that with the pipe in the middle, it needs to be the tip alone.

i wonder why they do that all that extra pipe adds up $

You just answered your own question, it makes them more money and they know people will pay for it. Yet another reason I don't bother with catbacks, I design my own systems.
