[ 15.67 :head: . All i need to say is its the truck in my signature, 400k on the motor/trans and all bone stock.

[ Notice on these slips (i have about 10 slips i'll be posting more pics up) that the MPH is the same EVERY pass, the time depends on the the 60ft time which is darn good, the 15.67 pass it didn't spin at all, other passes it spun. The motor is just so worn out it can't pull 4th gear AT ALL. it just dogs down and doesn't wanna go faster at all . It was all it could do to even hit 4,000 rpm in 3rd gear...400,000 friggin miles:bowtie:

[ no air filter, and CTS unhooked- 15.67 @ 84 :) ... 2.145 60ft ]

[ ....the 60ft times were the only thing that varied between passes

[ it was so much fun :D. My dad and I predicted 17.20 NEVER a 15.7.....The clutch is basicly GONE, after 400k miles its lived long enough  though. It doesn't engage until the pedal is almost all the way out. that motor is just a tank and my love for TBI engines has now even greatly increased and same with my dad... he cant wait to get his 87 305tbi on the road.

[ I don't want this to be a TBI vs. VORTEC shootout because its NOT, the thread title was a joke , but seriously take a second to think what i have here and you'll realize...dam thats pretty good. This truck brand new should of laid down low 15's maybe even 14's ..

[ Oh and BTW, as soon as i got home i ripped the computer out and checked the prom...its stock

Pretty cool man. A friend of mine has a 1990 2wd 5.7/5 speed and even with well over 200,000 miles it still pulls hard.

That's cool man!

I'm not trying to be a dick, but were you driving? I only ask, because I noticed your age. Those are pretty consistent times, with a well worn drive train and stick shift. especially if you're not driving regularly yet.

IMO you have the perfect combo of rcsb, 350, and a 5 speed. What are your plans for it, mod wise?

I forgot to ask, does that truck has a rear drop or anything? I really like how it sits.

Posi?

Man, i cant wait to take my truck down the track when i have my 350 in. im hoping for 14's

No My dad was driving, lets just say he has exp. with stick shifts and literally my trans is SO worn out that it has no resistance going into gears, just kinda slides in. as WASTED as that clutch was he CHIRPED 2nd gear every pass.

You have to have a valid drivers license and be 16 to race and NO you can't get away with it, they ask for ID when they tech your truck.

Its funny you say thats the perfect combo, My dad is 50 and he's owned about 5 of these trucks and he had a 93 RCSB with a 350/700R4/3.73 posi with a Jet stage2 chip, true duals, and an intake and it ran 15.55 at 88mph and my 400k 5spd truck just ran 2 tenths slow thats it :head:

Mod wise, I got headers to go on,true duals with DI/DO magnaflow, k&n air intake, throttle body spacer, ultimate tbi mods to the throttle body, injector pod spacer, and i got a walbro 255 fuel pump, also have a crane 4030 cam in my basement but my dad won't let me use it because its his, also have 2/4 drop and a few exterior modifications.

OH, and i'm ordering a Hays super truck clutch.. AND i forgot to mention a 89,000 mile 350 is going in along with a rebuilt 5spd thats FRESH :head:

Its got 2" leveling shackles on the rear that the prev. owner put on. I got a 2/4 drop going on.

 yea man , Radial rover A/T 31x10.50   yea its a factory G80 posi that still works great! thank god! it spun every pass except the fastest one.

Dude, BE SURE you get a good stall converter when you do your motor swap, this just PROVES that these trucks have horrible low stall converters from the factory and really stops them from launching,

Oh and if you didn't watch the videos, the 16.13 one is the best to watch because its a solo run and you can hear my ole' man get rubber on 2nd gear and when he gets 4th at the end the motor just lays down

yea yea then i started it, to pull it off the trailer and it weezed over like it has 90lbs of compression in the cylinders and started up and you could hear the death rattle in the bottom end, the bad bearing in the trans and they all walked away

For now im just keeping my V6 Stall, i heard they are a bit better then the V8 ones. The motor i have going in is gonna be a TBI 350 with a cam and Weiand stealth intake, not sure on what im doing with heads yet, i want a set of old school 2.02's.

and only crap if you ran some slicks you would be doing even better! but i think you would need a drive shaft loop.

crossy's son
08-20-2009, 12:46 PM
if it had slicks it would of slipped the clutch off the line, the little bit of tire spin helped.

What's to laugh. Slides into a 700, and stalls higher for the smaller motor, usually right on for a 350. Joshs should be perfect.

Not bad times. No videos of the 15 second runs? Its hard to run a 13 second time in the duramax if your spinning.LOL.

crossy's son
08-20-2009, 04:25 PM
There was a crappy video of the 15 second run

The fastest run was the only one i didn't get becuase it was the last pass of the night and the batteries in the camera were dead (dollar general batteries)

and TBI motors LOVE running cold, they run so much better when they're not hot so the 15.69 run it sat for like an hour before then, hopped in it and my dad toasted the tires and got perfect traction and it was awesome :D

The slower passes were the ones when we hotlapped it.

The 16.08 was the first pass of the night and it was stone cold but so were the tires, I was so happy after that run, i just wanted to load up and go home but my ole' man could smell the 15's and he found them

Believe it or not my Dad said it was the most fun he's had at the track in a long time because our "racetruck" has never made a successful run, 13 passes- 2 trannies and 13 fan belts.

Listen guys....

Would you drive a truck an hour away to a racetrack KNOWING your going to beat on it, with a bad clutch, tranny making noises and 400,000 miles ??

I DON'T HAVE MY LICENSE! and my dad has 4 vehicles on the road, putting my truck on the road would be pointless, he'd rather drive one of our modded cummins' :D

And yea we unhooked the CTS, It has alot more bottom end and throttle response with it unhooked.

And we have a car trailer and a truck that gets 14mpg towing anything so we'll take ANYTHING to the track. Have you guys ever seen pictures of all the clunkers my dad has?

I think wed. we're taking his 87!!! not legal either but who cares!

Outlawz2004

In that condition, I would trailer it also. Hell, you guys have the tow pig and the car hauler, so it only makes sense to trailer it. You know its coming home regardless of it breaks down or not. I drive a couple hours to the track, if I break something it would suck bad. Next time, have him run the cummins down the track too.

We did tonight..we took our buddie's 11 second 87' Grand National ont he trailer and he was having troubles with his $700 ECU so we unhooked the Dodge from the trailer and ran it down the track and ran a 14.73 and then hooked it back up to the trailer and headed home with the GN  and the overhead said 16.2 MPG

Ahh, I thought you meant it wasnt legal

BUT I can drive see, and my truck's in great condition and I DO beat on it, on or off track :read:

And you and the cummins. 14 mpg towing? cmon sissy. we get 19+ in the dmax towing a 3 place sled trailer at about 6k buddy

I'm sure you do

its a 3rd gen cummins with all that electronic stuff, thats the problem :read:

And its mostly uphill, I'm just going by the overhead which is always 1.5-2 mpg less than what it actually is when you figure it by hand.. has been since day 1 he bought it.

Next fill up i'll let you know what she gets, the edge brings the mpg way down. screw that edge, that thing is horrible. need to get a smarty!!
