Hey guys, im back in the truck scene after selling the GTO and taking some time to think about what i want to do.

im looking to make a "rat" style truck out of an OBS 2wd truck. im wondering if anyone has any pics of rat rod inspired trucks.

im just starting to plan out what i wanted, and as it would figure i found the perfect truck for my plans before i got the money (so naturally it will be gone before i can pick it up).

either way. if anyone has any rat inspired OBS truck pics id love to see them.

Haven't seen him in so long I forgot his nick? likaroc13 or something like that? Anyhow, met him years ago when I lived in TN, he came over to buy some steelies from me. Real nice guy and a cool truck.

thats exactly the style im looking for... great looking truck.

what do you guys think of a lowered rcLB ? i think a shortbed is best, but long bed can fit a good bit of junk in back and i found a VERY solid starter truck with low miles. only draw back is the bed is SOOOOOOO long.

Longbeds don't bother me, my last daily was an extended cab longbed. Almost every time I go to haul something now I hate that I have a shortbed. Short trucks look sportier but there's something badass about a loooooong lowered vehicle, whether it's a truck or car.

yeah i was a little offput by the look of the longbed at first. but then was looking around while driving today (i drive a ton for work) and i think they have potential. it will look lower without being quite as low which is good for me because i want to do static drop only.

the extra cargo room is another great point. i have a colorado for work and its a quad cab with the short bed. and i cant fit crap in it and it annoys me. i think i can also find some cool uses and things to fill the long bed that will be cool permanent in bed mountain bike racks perhaps.

plenty of kustoms but no pics of rats in this thread yet. a real rat rod is cobbled together with anything that the builder has laying around. going out of your way to make your truck look kustom is sweet, imo, but it don't make it a rat.

The sig pic's not his truck. It's the look he's going for. The satin is temporary.

Here's one that Banks Performance did probably 6 or so years ago. If I remember correctly it was a 454SS and they yanked out the big block and dropped in a 350 and put their twin-turbo kit for the SBC on it and pulled somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000-1100rwhp. Took it on the Hot Rod Power Tour too I believe.

http://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l393/90LXstang50/Banks_RatRod_Twin-TurboShopTruckTru.jpg

Here's the same truck with a clean street truck look...I like both looks but I really dig the shop truck/rat rod look.

That Banks 454 is sick. Its gotta be one of the best lookin OBS' out there. Those billet wheels are sweet to, tons of cash for them.

I'm surprised not to see more of these conversions, given the popularity and scarcity of the early Blazers. Unlike chopping a car, do you really need to worry much about structural integrity since the cab is on a real frame and seperate from the bed?
This is really getting the ol' wheels turning...:hack:

Yes you still need to worry about structural integrity. You'd be suprised what happens to the body of a car/truck when you cut the roof off. Doesn't matter if it is bolted to a frame or not.

I would strongly dissagree. Cheap paint usualy flat, low buck steel wheels(often stock from something), and generaly a low cost build is what a rat rod is to me. Many of the pics posted are "rat rod" inspiered in my opinion.

Inverter
03-04-2011, 08:59 PM
All the OBS posted,if anything, are traditional hot rod inspired. Most confuse traditional w/rats. Rat rods are eclectic, patina'd w/sometimes intentional rough fabrication and an overall shoddy rigged up theme. They are home built as are lots of traditionals but they are a step down from a real or traditional hot rod.
I know, blah blah blah... The line between is getting blurred but for the record.

but i do agree, satin paint and steelies do not constitute a "rat rod" hell, even that term was coined by the shiny painted rod builders.

This one belongs to "Big Chris" in our car club. These pics were taken right after I got all the work done to get the Supremes on, takes a few mods to get them on these trucks. Wheel studs have to be swapped to 1/2" studs, rotors & axle flanges have to be machined so the center caps will fit.
