One of my dad's friends wants a good sounding/performing exhaust on his 98 RCSB 1500 4.3 vortec. It runs pretty good now but he wants more, and said better sound/mpg would be awesome too :D (has stock exh. now)

He said he'll pay me to install it :D. I don't want too much fab work involved. He wants Dual split pipes. And he wants headers, high flow cat.

sooo....

Pacesetter headers. (probably end up gettin ceramic)

My question is, Do you think the Headers would go right up to the Y-pipe?? I mean the Y-pipe is direct replacement (if you have stock manifolds)...most shorty headers are manifold replacement and will go right up to the factory Y-pipe.

Don't tell me about a V8 swap.. Or shorties are a waste. Its not my truck. I'm doing some research for the guy and might make some money doing something i love to do :D

Thanks
Brandon

If anybody has any experience and can peice me together a relatively "bolt up" exhaust that'd be great... I have no experience with 4.3's and it sucks shopping for them in a fullsize.

The collector diameter on the headers is 2.5" which sounds big... and the magnalfow Y-pipe looks to have 2.25"

Whatever happened to the headers coming with the Y-pipe !!

Might want to call Summit before you order anything to see if they can tell you the exact specs of the header collector size and y-pipe inlet size. At any rate, i'd go 2.5" to the muffler, 3" will be too large for a V6 as it's almost too large for my 305 and my low end torque decreased when I upsized my piping and a V6 in a full size truck needs all the torque it can get. Other that that, looks good but the Summit Turbo dual catback is cheaper.

Thanks! i may just give them a call tomorrow....

I need to find a pair of headers that come with the y-pipe....

and the truck has to have a cat to pass inspection.

If you can find a y-pipe without a cat, go for a Thunderbolt cat, best bang for the buck I can find.

No offense and I know the truck is not yours, but I've never heard a V6 with exhaust that doesn't sound raspy. Just my .02
