so im not really sure what to do first but im thinking exhaust for extra power and sound untill chip and intake

what do yall do for exhausts?
i like when diesels have that low rumble like a deep gas exhaust. not when its all loud and poppy kinda like cherry bombs

straight pipe would be cheapest i guess. would that give me more hp than a mbrp aswell since it doesnt have a muffler?
how does it sound?

what if i got rid of the cat aswell? or do just muffler?
how would that sound compared to a muffler exhaust?
or should i get a mbrp? 4 or 5 inch?
how do the different sizes change
straight piped or aftermarket?
and what kinda power difference did yall see in new exhaust? did it smoke more aswell??????

I kept mine stock and will straight pipe it when I get time/ money to do it all the way back instead of just unhooking it. Changing your exhaust will not make it smoke more. A tune will do that though.

Get rid of the stock cat and muffler, but it most likely will set a CEL without a tuner to disable it. Aftermarket mufflers flow just about as well as stright piped. There are tons of vid on youtube of how different exhausts sound a 5" will be louder then 4 thats it. I doubt you will notice much more power stock.

Don't they have 3.5" exhaust stock?

If it does i'd get a 4" turbo-back MBRP, the muffler is "Straight thru" design and will flow just as good as Straight pipe, and there will be no drone in the cab, but it'll BARK when you get on it, and rumble when you're just riding around town.

If it has a stock 4" turbo back, I'd just order some delete pipes for it or go to an exhaust shop and they'll make you something.

Cat delete is called a "Test pipe" and a muffler delete pipe.

Any idea if thats the LBZ duramax? Or LLY ? have fun with it :D

It look as if the Stock exh. is 3.5" .....

But heres a muffler delete- http://www.puredieselpower.com/catalog/0106-chevygm-66l-duramax-diesel-stock-muffler-delete-pipe-p-630.html

Heres the CAT-delete test pipe- http://www.xtremediesel.com/mbrpcattestdeletepipe.aspx

If you decide to go full exhaust---
MBRP 4" turbo back exhausts are more $$$ than magnaflow and magnaflow has goood sound and quality. http://www.puredieselpower.com/catalog/magnaflow-turbo-back-exhaust-0107-chevy-duramax-diesel-p-2736.html

I really like the MBRP exhaust. They do 4" and 5" for your truck as well as single or dual stacks, single pass side exit and dual side exit. You can keep run the mbrp muffler or use a delet pipe. Anything you want to do they have an application for it.

so if i jsut replace the cat and muff with a pipe i would get all the same results as a whole system right? sound, performance ,and economy?????

First off, do you have 5 speed or 6 speed tranny? 5 speed backed the lly and 6 speed backed the lbz. And I'm pretty sure all 06's were lbz's.

Some very early 06's were still LLY's. There is a way you can check with your vin #. Like said above if you have a 6 speed ally then you have the LBZ. Or if your duramax emblem on the door says alison transmission on it, then you have a LBZ

Back to exhaust, I would get a 5" MBRP. Buddy of mine on GMFS has that for his LBZ and sounds amazing

All 06s are LBZs some where just detuned to the LLY power level and called LLYs. 8th digit for the LBZ is D the 06 LLY with have a 2 IIRC.

dont do 5" unless ur makin ALOT of power. ur exhaust will tumble too much with 5" and you will lose power. i have mbrp 4" turbo back on my lly and love it and im makin 450-500hp to the wheels

If you use the Muff delete kit will it throw codes ? My biggest problem is living in Alaska, S&H kills us. Haven't found a muff shop that can bend 3.5"+. wanna do something for diff sound and will help with a Air Intake. When I make my trip to L48 next summer, plan on gonig w/banks 6 gun bundle exhaust, intake and tunner.

Before you spend the money on banks stuff look into PPE for a handheld or EFI live. I believe quadzilla makes a decent tuner for the dmax also.

I would probably get a 4" turbo back straight pipe system if I had a dmax. Or I would get a 5 or 6" stack or 5 or 6" dual stacks. It doesn't really matter whether or not you install a 4 or 5" system... the 5" system may have a slightly deeper sound to it though.

If you want some more power I would also get a PPE system. If you want a not so common user freindly program you can get EFI Live which is the best thing for Dmax's :D

I was talking to a friend that has done a ton of testing on exhaust and headers setups. He said the best bang for the buck is replacing the turbo down pipe.

No codes from doing the muffler delete vs. the aftermarket muffler. This is assuming that you already have a programer to turn the codes off from the dpf delete.

check out farmboysdiesel.com you can get a complete 4" exhaust for under 300.

You get what you pay IIRC for $500 you get a kit that fits good and will outlast the truck.

Thanks for the advice on muff delete package and which AF kits. Gotta find something inexpensive and small, shipping to Alaska is a killer. Will pay just as much in SH as I will for AF full exhaust. Plus can't find anybody that bends 3.5 or bigger pipe up here.

Would shipping from a Canadian be any cheaper? Just an idea

look in the glove box at the rpo codes sticker and see if one of the 3 digit codes is lbz or lly

Toyota's Tom Stricker, national manager of technical and regulatory affairs, pointed out that it took 15 years to bring gas-electric hybrids from concept to its current market level—still not quite 3 percent of the new car market. "We have to make vehicles that our customers are going to buy." To bring about a real change, Stricker said, car shoppers are going to have to show a lot more interest in alternatives like hybrids and electric cars.

Check the 8th character of your VIN. If it is a 2, you have an LLY.

Take care,
