Those flux core wire welders are good for light welding jobs. I own the same one. Takes some getting used to. I weld with a stick on the job once in a while but I find the flux cores hard to get a decent bead with. Works good for filling holes or repairing seat frames etc. but don't think you're going to put a sheetmetal box together with it. Anything flat... no corners!

you will spend more money trying to get that harbor freight welder to run worth a crap than its worth. also flux core is not what you want to weld sheet metal. it generally runs hot, much harder for a beginner.
here is a good thread that points out some of the weak points on those welders and how to fix them

if you dont mind buying used, try and find a lincoln or miller wire feed. you get a better quality welder and probably a larger welder. i prefer miller wire feeds over lincoln but theyre both top tier. if you have anymore questions let me know.

Used a multi-process Miller to learn how to GMAW/FCAW weld, awesome machine. Gonna try out a Lincoln 140 MIG in a few weeks, see if I like it and if I do buy the 180.

nothing from harbor freight is worth a crap. Miller wire feed is the way to go. i use the miller 210. its the bigger machine but it works great. i had the 180 but it was to small for what i started doing.

X2 on the Miller being the way to go. If you're on a budget, just get a Lincoln from Lowes. Thats what I use here at the house (with gas of course) and it has never let me down.

I had a wire welder very similar to what you discribed. It worked kinda okay. I had a hard time finding wire for it. I gave it away and bought a Millermatic 212.
